Splatting on fine lines... help?

First off hello I am a newb!

One of those people who use to draw a lot when I was younger.. I joined the army did three years got out and hav not drawn since before the Army.. so 5 years? Got interested in AB and bought the stuff.. Anyways. I am no good at all to start.. But the problem is when I try to draw the fine tight hairline lines it splats and comes out in sometimes like litle circle looking lines. Even to think of a line. I use createx opaque paints and a Master G22 airbrush..

I have tried spraying with higher but just to much paint comes out for me.. I don't feel comftorable painting that fast yet. Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Frchkn welcome to the site!

I'm still a newb myself so take it for what it's worth, but I have found there is a fine line (no pun intended) when it comes to getting the magical formula of paint, reducer and air pressure necessary to get that pencil thin line.

Part of the problem is the createx paint. I know the bottle says airbrush paint, but I have a hell of a time getting it to do fine lines without reducing the snot out of it. If it's opaque, I'm reducing it by almost 30 percent and dropping my air pressure to around 20. Even then I can still get the spidering if I move too slow and let too much paint through.

If you can find it, I would say to get some of the non textile oriented paint like the Golden airbrush colors or the Comart stuff, it does much better straight from the bottle. It will take all the paint mixing voodoo out of the equation while you are still learning the fundamentals of airbrush control.

Thanks for the advice, I will try thining it with maybe some water.. I have a hard time shading with it as well.. Either not enough or to much comes out. I think thining it will help me out.

hi frchkn, welcome, youve come to the rght place! im still a learner, but for what its worth (like scrogg) i had the same troubles and with the "spiders" i was thinning too much, and with the"splatters" too thick, and i had to learn to "speed it up"! i was used to a "hairy brush" and took me a while to get faster!! still slow down too much now, might help, riki.

I agree with Noa, just sounds like your going to slow, takes a lil practice, but you'll get it.

Hi all, I don't really have a limit on how much to thin paint down. I make it as thin as I need to to get it to flow smoothly, and adjust air pressure down accordingly. As low as 12-15 lbs. You may have to reapeat a line several times to get the build up of pigments so it's as dark or opaque as you want it to be.
