I know I need an adhession promotor , but what kind is best for this application ?, and I know I need a clear with a flexible property , but I don't what kind to get . The auto store where I get this kind of stuff is not sure what I am talking about . Need help please . Thank you !!! I use Dupont clear on the other items I have painted , 7600s . Is this fine or should I use another kind ?

hi it all depends on what the item is made out of? if its metal it will need to be etched and primed if its plastic you will need to plastic prime and then prime as well.when its put back on and attached it shouldnt have any flex so the clear you normally use will be fine,if it will flex add a flex agent to the clear.most paint brands carry it.if you are worried about stone chips you can add 5 to 10 % hardner to your base coat

Lonestar....

I've painted bug deflectors in the past. I have always used an adhesion promoter if they were made out of plastic. As far as brands, I've used Bulldog. It comes in a rattle can. I know there are other brand names out there, and have never heard anything bad about any of them, so I would feel safe using any of them.

As far as a flex agent for the clear.....don't worry about it. It's much more of a headache, and you don't need one. Once the deflector is mounted to the van, there will be very little flexing to be dealt with. Flex agents are mainly designed to be used on something that will REALLY be mashed around......like a fender on an ATV or Dirtbike.
