T-shirt of my Grandson
cdv cdv is offline 06-28-2009

Going out to Colorado to visit the Son and Daughter in law and my Grandson. Thought I'd try to do a shirt with my grandson on it for the wife. Figured IF it came out good, I'd make one for the daughter in law too.... Here are some pics of the reference photo and progress pics of the first one. I vectorized the photo and cut it in vinyl to get the proportions right. Any comments and critiques are more than welcome.... actually, I expect them.... Please.

Cliff,
I am not the expert on this, but it is cool you vectorized
his face to get proportions right. I am getting ready to do an
old style lady face on my banjo case and I would do it like you
did. I may use clear acetate but still to get the face right. Like
in one of my dvd's, if you lose the likeness no matter how good you are its very hard to get it back.
The only thing I would do is to keep building up the whole image and
get it as close as you can. And maybe work back and forth with light and dark colors. Build it slow and don't spray all at once.
Keep posting your progress!!!!!!!!!!! You are off to a good start.

Thanks Fresno, the biggest mistake I made was on the lips. I did like you said, sprayed all at once and ended up having to blacken it out and do over. First time doing a portrait on a T-shirt and the results I got (other than the mouth) was what I was going for. I intended for this to be just a white on black painting with the only color being in the eyes. I'm going to do another just like it for my daughter in law and I'm sure it will turn out better than the first one but my wife loves it and plans on wearing it so it can't be to bad.

I found out how to vectorize pictures from the new Alan Pastrana DVD that just came out. I believe I can now vectorize anything now and you can use it to cut out the acetate too for handheld shields and masks.
