Does anyone use the model paints(enamal or acrylic) that you use on plastic model car/planes in their airbrush?

If so what reducing ratio do you use, 3:2?

Also what kind of thinner is best to use with these paints?

Jay

yes i do. i use faskolor leaxan paint on my rc car bodies. most of the time i just reduce it with a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol or windex that i made which works good because with the alcohol it dries faster so it wont have much of a chance to run on your plastic. but u should thin it so if u dipped in a stick it slides down and runs and dosnt clump up and dripp.

I have used the model master acrylic paint reduced with water. It works great but is quite expensive at 3.00 usd for a small 1/2 oz bottle.

Jay, for plastic scale models I mainly use Tamiya paints as I find they flow better, have a greater shelf life and the colours are perfect for the models I build which are predominantly Tamiya also (I detest all things Revelle).

Using the A20 thiners I tend to stick with a ratio if 2:1 (2 parts thinners;1 part colour) unless it is to be used for weathering where I tend to use a mix of 5:1.

I believe Testors have their own reducer but realisticaly any compatable reducer should work with the same ratios.

Oh, I should also add that when i'm using a primer/base coat I use a mix of 1:1

Keep in mind that like any other paint type or brand, you will get varying vicosities from bottle to bottle and batch to batch. So while having a set reducing ratio seems like a nice simple plan, the reality is you need to look at the end results, and reduce with that in mind.
