My paint jobs

01-02-2008
Hey guys and gals, i havent posted here in a while but ive been busy practicing and trying to get better at painting. I mainly do R/C bodies but i am gonna give a hockey helmet a try in the new yr. Heres some of my recent work. Please critisize it. I always wanna know how to do things better or go about making myself a better painter. Most of my stuff is self tought bc im the only painter in the family.

Re: My paint jobs
Do you have to paint those from the inside out? They are superb.
Thanks. Brad

Cool effect on those. As far as insight I don't know what you could do to make them better. I think they look great. On top of that I can't think in reverse so well.

i also use to back with mostly silver then depending on what the customer wanted the interior to look like i would back it up in that color on top of the silver i use faskolor when working on the bodies its like the createx of plexan in my opinion also i prefer waterbase at this point

Re: My paint jobs
Those are really cool Brandon. I like them alot!
As far as advice, a wise old airbrusher once told me to use deep blue violet for shading instead of black... and recently a beautiful young airbrusher said I should try red violet. You might even try using both!
Keep up the good work

Re: My paint jobs
Ha ha, cheesy but funny!
Yeah, I dont know what kind of paint you use, some of them have this as a stock colour, but take your darkest blue and mix it with violet. Play around with the ratios (you might like it more blue than purple especially over white) mix it fairly thin so that it flows nicely and is somewhat transparent. Theres a nice example of this process on this thread, if you look at the american flag under Ghooptie's name.
I would say experiment with it before trying it on a customers job. The red violet is the same, just mix your deepest red with violet. I find this can give things a slightly surreal quality, but it looks pretty cool.
I'm not on MSN unfortunately.

Re: My paint jobs
Thanks alot guys
Clive, i usually only charge 20 to 25 bucks for a paintjob from my customers. The prices vary if the body is bigger or just a small tiny one or if i have to buy the body and paint it for them. I dont wanna go too high with pricing so i keep it relativly low and ppl usually like the relaxed price so they r always coming back for more.
And just to add here. I have some bodies that are painted for sale. The blue camo 12th scale body, The purple and gold with the white front Touring car and a 1 colour oval body i painted for a customer 2 yrs ago that he never contacted back to me for. So if u guys know of anyone or would like one urselves, Pm or email me dubsessed_43@hotmail.com and we can work out a deal and pricing.
Cheers Brandon

Its gonna get worked? Thats too bad but at least you got the good pics of it pristine.
I was wondering about your welding helmet you did back there how the quote ends? Nice work on the lettering btw.

Re: My paint jobs
Here are some of the bodies i paint over the past week....The first 2 are mine and the yellow camaro is a customers.
The black one is my first attempt at tru fire. I didnt think it turned out that great but the judges at the painting competition i entered thought differently. The last picture is me accepting the award for best paintjob at our big trophy race we held.

Re: My paint jobs
Thanx alot Tortuga77. Just keep practicing and never let anyone stand in ur way of trying something different and out of the box. So far not to brag but before i started noone did lightning or camo or tried to attempt tru fire. So maybe i started a trend. Just practice and keep at it and u will be 10 times better then this bud. hope this helps u out.
Heres 2 from the past few weeks, been busy with the real job to paint a bunch. Wish it was the other way around haha. anywho enjoy and post ur comments CHEERS
