Starting (iPods/iPhones/Wii + more)
I want to start airbrushing, but I dont know much. What I want to do is airbrush iPods, Laptops, iPhones, Wiis and playstations.
I dont know what sort of brush or compressor or even paints I should get. I need high detail and I assume i would need some sort of undercoats for most of the devices.
My budget is AU$300-450 (Australian Dollars)
So here are my questions:
1. What brush should I get?
2. Any accessories I should get?
3. What compressor? (i dont imagine it needs to be all that powerful)
4. What sort of paints should I get?
5. What other info should I know? Any sites or guides or other posts that can help me?
Thanks heaps!

Re: Starting (iPods/iPhones/Wii + more)
Welcome to the forum.
1.A pasche vl will be a good one to start learning with.
2.Glad press and seal suran wrap is inexpensive, for masking. Rubbing alchohol. Clean rags. X-acto blade. 3-m red scuff pad.
3.Any compressor that can push a constant pressure of 30-60 psi thruough the airbrush.
4. Auto Air will work but clear it after painting is complete.
5.click on airbrush reviews above in the red area.
Thanks.

I agree with Art but I would go with the Paasche Talon insted of the VL. You'll get more control and more detail with it.

c) any first coats?
d) best clear coat for it?
e) How thick is the paint? Like is it millimeters or a fraction of a millimeter?
thanks!

Welcome! you are getting some great help already, but the best advice I can hand you is>>>>> I really suggest that with the many needs you have posted the best solution would be to subscribe to the Airbrush Technique magazine that is packed with helpful how-tos, and you will have access on this forum to areas with so much helpful reading/how tos/ videos you will wonder how you will ever get to the end of it all.
Good luck glad to have as a member!

Re: Starting (iPods/iPhones/Wii + more)
Ok, here is what Im thinking of getting (no idea on the compressor yet)
Airbrush:
Airbrush Iwata HP.C Plus ($235.85)
Paints:
Createx 60ml Matte Top Coat ($7.25)
Createx 60ml Gloss Top Coat ($7.25)
Createx Airbrush Opaque Colour Set ($28.40)
Airbrush Australia, Airbrush Megastore, AutoAir, Createx Importer Offering The Best Prices In Oz
Cleaning:
Autoair Cleaner 120ml ($7.85)
Airbrush Cleaning Station ($29.95)
Airbrush Australia, Airbrush Megastore, AutoAir, Createx Importer Offering The Best Prices In Oz
Compressor + tubez:
- How powerful? etc.
Anything I left out? ($317.80 ex. shipping + compressor) - Australian Dollars!
Ok, so well im not so sure on the cleaning station or on the paints:
- I chose the cleaning station because on the equipment page on this site, it said you needed a holder, and that is a holder plus a cleaning thing (hehe) so I figure...
- I think that will be enough paints, also are they the right paints?
- With the airbrush, it got good reviews, and is like $50 more than the cheapest airbrushes (here) so I figure, why not get a good one than get the cheapest.

If you want to save your self some money and still get a great airbrush, switch to the Iwatta HP-CS $ 112.00. Excellent for Createx paint.

It's $164 in Aus. With the top feed brushes, how easy is it to change colours? do you have to empty and clean it then add the next colour, or is it a simple swap out sort of system.
EDIT:
Would this be a good compressor:

But I do plan on holding onto my CS because it does have it's up sides.

I don't want to push any paticular product here, but I used to use Createx, had a bit of a problem with them, so switched to com art, much better. Just my opinion......

For the compressor go to ebay and have a look, there are a lot of compressors that are good for what you need.
If you are doing plastic objects, you will need to buff the surface then use a plastic primer, this help the paint stick. Septone make a plastic primer, which you can get from Super cheap Autos.
