Default flat "clear" coat

A friend of mine is wanting me to do some flames on the tank of his bike. He is wanting Carolina blue (sky, baby blue) over flat black. The issue I am having is what do I do to protect the work from the elements. Clear coat obviously wont work on the flat black.

Sir,
Definately gotta protect it! Clear coat application is a whole other matter but check this link out for some examples of what coats you are probably looking for:

Hot Rod Flatz

Sounds like a nice color choice. Make sure to post the pics.

BTW, the avatar is comic bliss

Most companies now make a "flat" clear. You can adjust mixing ratios to get the "flattness" that you want. I know PPG had one and I sure that there are others. I will try to get back with more info if no one else chimes in on this.
