Default Auto Touchup Airbrush

Hello all,

I just discovered this site, and I've been learning an awful lot. So first, thanks for all the info.

I haven't found anything regarding my primary question, though, so I was wondering if someone might have any suggestions:

I do auto touch-up. I primarily use a Sata Mini-Jet or Sharpe Finex 100 or 300, but I occasionally have situations where I can use an airbrush to advantage. I have a single action, external mix Paasche and a 'no-name' double action internal mix brush. Both work well for most paints, but seem to have trouble with metallics and (for some reason?) reds.

I'd love to use a dedicated 'airbrush' paint, but my mixing kit and software system means I'm essentially 'married' to Standox paints. Additionally, I can't really change the size of the metallics I spray if I want the repair to match.

I'm assuming the tip is too fine on the brushes I own, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a brush that can spray metallic auto paints? I *think* from what I've read here that I'll need a brush with a 0.5mm tip...

I appreciate any advice, and thanks in advance.

paasche vl kit with 3 different size tips would work nicely for what you're looking for, sprays light medium and heavy paints. have a nice day, George

Larry, welcome.
This helmet was done with a black base, fine silver matalic, and candies. sorry the pictures not the greatest but in the sun it looks better.
I used a VL with a .5 nozzle to do the flake. I'm not sure you would get a good dispersment with larger flake.

Thanks for the help, folks.

Cowboy-NICE work! Stunning, actually....

Based on your info, I ordered a Paasche VL with the three heads/needles. I'm really hoping this will spray my paints. I do have a single action Paasche (with a much smaller needle) that I use for water-based dyes, and I've been very happy with its quality, so I'm hoping the VL will do as well.

I do have another question, though-I've read in other threads that it can help to keep some thinner and a brush handy, and brush the thinner into the head when you start getting clogs and spitting. Any thoughts on whether this would help with these 'metallic clogs', if they recur?

Thanks again,

Larry
