That is awesome! It is good to see some 3d stuff on the forum . You really have a lot of talent. Thanks for sharing with all fo us. It makes me want to sculpt something, except for I don't think I could really make it that well.

nat,soap stone cut almost as easy as ivory soap but it comes in different colors

Soapstone is stone that 1st Nations People and Inuit people(Eskimo) carve into mostly arctic animals. Im just a big white guy that likes carving.
It can be cut with woodworking tools about the same hardness as basswood or butternut wood. Basically I cut everything off that doesn't look like a fish then file it with rasps and chisels. When I get a the exact shape I want then I wet sand it with 80,150, 220, 400, 800 then 1000grit then spray it with lacquer finish. That piece is 35 lbs and 21" long. I have a 135 lb salmon in my back yard that needs sanding.

Nat, you can buy clay that will harder at room temperture, no oven needed to bake the clay
