Default Metal Tear, Mokwepa

Hi

I just rememberd that im not actually finished with the picture that ive attached. I forgot to shade the metal rolls onto the red. Its late and ive just finished work. Anyway.

Please comment. Appart from me forgetting to do the shadows, something looks wrong/unrealistic. I dont have a good eye for this art thing but i know most of you do. Any comments please.

I have been airbrushing for 1 week now but am desperate to learn and get the "artistic eye".

The yellow wrighting on the check flag should say TEAM, but it doesnt stand out, is there a way to make it more vizible? I wanted it to look like it was spraypainted onto the flag.

Thanks
Dylan

PS: ignore the overspray, I had to use regular masking tape to shield everything. Careless from my part, I know. Im battling to find frisket film here in the middle of the bush.

Hi Mokwepa, First thing I noticed is the inside shadeing on the tears, its to heavy, bold, it needs to be more faded into the riped sections, the rips go or hang in a certain direction, keep the shadeing in that direction, lightly going about a quarter of the way into the shape of the rip, and remember the light, fade the shadeing as your going into the rip. As far as the lettering goes, there are a few in the forum that can help ya out with that, I'm sure they will be happy to chime in and let ya know. Other than that, it looks pretty good, kerp up the good work :-)

i like it, but i think maybe the tears need some seperation. not just one big tear around the checkerboard.....maybe 4 or 5 seperations...............and the shadows are on the dark side......

Mokwepa, Kd, and Chuck have given you a couple of good tips. What stands out to me is no light source, you have to pick where your light is coming from, then you can add some shadows and highlights to your painting, by doing this you will add "MOVEMENT" to the tears. Using some Lt. Blue, starting at the base of the tears, paint some lines to outside edge, add some Lt. Gray lines beside them, and some White lines, this will cast an illusion of bended metal. add some drop shadows to the opposite side of your chosen ligh source on the outside of the tears (red area). Remember to do this very lightly building up slowly until you get the look you are after. As for the lettering, you state you were going for a look that you had used a spray can to paint the word team on the flag, if that is the case then I think you have captured it, cause that is what it looks like. If you want to sharpen it up so that it stands out, try using a hand held shield and spraying them again to get the crisp edges, you may want to try to add a Red outline to make it stand out. Hope these ideas help ya, looking forward to seeing your changes.
