Seen some hulks here, so I tried one myself. Had a ref pic, but it wasn't very good so had to improvise things like the sixpack and it didn't come out that well. Also the face didn't come out as I wanted, but I'm pretty happy with him anyway.

I'm trying to find out what's easier, background first or main objects first, but no matter how I turn it I have to mask just as much.

Kewl beans Stormer ! I don't like masking, takes to much time, lazy I guess lol,I like to do my background first, then main subject, as I do the main subject, I outline first with a small line, and work out so far from that "blending" small outlines together untill I feel comfortable enough to "fill in" with minimal overspray. But I think everyone has thier own way of abing. Just gotta find what your comfortable with .

I also dont care much for masking....I use it some, but found that the cross-eyed videos use of transfer tech helped me the most....
If it is a very detailed project I go with that method:
mask area
trace and cut image outer border [carbon paper under image]
lightly spray white background in cut out area
line image back up with the cut out area [small tape to hold in place]
place carbon paper under image and trace image [this gives a map for free hand work.


Javier Soto...killer klown, and cyber girl vids show this method also.
I will try this week to post the method for ya with a short how to and photos
Looking at your post and the freehand skill your showing this just might fit you
well......

Ill get on it right away....I have a hulk ref here Ill use...My high detail brush is down waiting on parts, but Ill try with the others I have here so it may not be up to par, but it will show the methods I spoke of......

HEY NIC,,,once i spent some hard nights on frisket,,cause the big boys used it,,and all these how to videos made it seem so easy,,and all i did was mess up my work,,it got stretched out,,pieces were lost,,,some all a sudden didnt fit,,i sprayed where i thought i masked off,,,ALL WACKY MY EYES WENT,,and i never wrestled with it again,,
(as for masking with frisket) using paper works well for me,regular copy paper,,when i must mask something

but im a fan of just spraying freehand,,but to make sharp line in corners of a subject i do break out a piece of paper to give it that fine edge look,,

i think hulk came out SUPER,,ya get it,,super hero,,ahhaa,,WHY SO SMALL THO,,if you can control ya brush to this tiny area you got a great start going,, keep postin them,,,and experiment with what makes you comfortable to use,,,

nice WORK,,it seems to me everyone who draws hulk always has a different drawing,,i havent found two alike,,GREAT START !!

also,,there are times when i want to throw stuff away but i noticed if i finish something ,,that at the end it all falls together,,

so keep posting them,,,(boy im just a chatter box today )

I would point to French Curves and various and sundry (I just bought a new dictionary) other drafting tools for shields to paint with. You can get just about any shape yu want with them and by holding them at various distances from the surface you can get crisp or soft lines.

I ordered couple freehand templates the other day to see what can be done with those. I tried to make some myself using overhead projector film, but had a very hard time to get even one of the curves smooth. Been playing around with some cartoonish characters using the curves I made and that's fun, you know big round nouse and stuff

Very excited to see how the technique yardnut is showing works and to try it myself!

Ive been trying to get this done for ya Niclas......as I said my detail brush is down...so bear with me...not my best work for sure...dreading trying to even attempt the face work.......but phishhhhhhh here goes...I usually do blow it on faces anyway..once I got the road map going all else if free hand....

By far the most comprehensive way yardartnut for transferring an image. It always frustrates me when I can't get the right proportions. And so many curves on a bike...Why don't they just make them flat?

Your welcome Niclas...when ya mentioned having troubles in that area....I recalled the same problem, and how this method really helped me......
