Default first skull attempt

Thought I would try one of these. I'm having a heck of a time with dry tip. It's like every 10 seconds i'm having to clean it off. My paint is thinned to the point of almost being too thin. I would get a good run then nothing and then BLAPPPPPPPPPPP a big spider web. Needless to say alot of cussing went in to this LMAO. I've came to the conclusion that the acrylic paint from walmart just sucks so bad it's not even worth trying to paint with. I've got good paint from createx but it is pearl. I'm gonna have to order some good paint. Anyhow, here's my skull and some practice work. Just for the record, the pad that I used for this is from walmart and works really great for practicing. I figured that the paint would soak through but it didn't. There's like 100 sheets and it's only like $3.98, so if anyone was wondering where to get some practice material.

your coming along fine...
try working your pressure down and see if it helps.....
I paint with the walmart craft paints all the time, but I use createx reducer with them.....keeps them flowing and smooth out of the AB.

thanx yard, that's weird, I guess it was me and not the paint LOL. I use water to thin the paint, does the reducer work better?

i see ur practice along with the skull i sometimes do the same do some daggers dots and lines before i start doing some of my work i mean even a singer has to warm up their vocals so in other words thats how i loosen up my hand and get it ready to spray away woohoo as for your dagger strokes if i may give u a tip without offending u it seems by the look of the pic that some of ur dagger strokes that ur doing ur trying to perfect them concentrateing on them and thats why they are comeing out crooked try them in one flow once u get the flow then work on size and length if im wrong then my apolagize just my 2 cents

Yeah the reducer works better. But I found that if I use Golden AirBrush Medium I get a "better paint" and it then works good on fabric too. (50/50 or more medium)

Skulls good for a first try, especially with paint gremlins

your welcome......lotta folks get discouraged ABing thinking that it's just them and not the equip. or supplies they are using......thats one reason I love this forum....everyone will work to resolve the issues....Paints are such a wide open area in this field....what fits some dont fit others.....example...many artist here can make auto air flow like magic...produce materpieces...Ive been at it since 96, and cant get AA to do toookie [southern pronounced tuki definition:squat,nada,nuttin... ahahah]for me.... but I can take the craft paint from walmart, and go to town on a project...both are waterbourne paints...what's the difference
the difference is me..?[and a few chemical properties].....so in the past I have learned the magic touch for one type waterbourne, but not the other....I came here and other places....learned what others know about gettting AA to flow proper...I tried it all, and cannot get it to work for me...at least not on a consitant basis where I would use it all the time....now that leaves a problem....Ya cant use the craft paints for the automotive work so I use protection and ventilation and shoot euros....there is a massive amount of things to learn..try....weed out...and make do....
I can attest to this...many times in the past a customer at my shop stated they always wanted to try ABing...so I reach for the Walmart craft paint..show how to add AA reducer...pop it in th cup, and let them spray away.....hardly a time when paint flow was at all an issue...matter of fact I can never recall tip dry with those mixtures.....
oooops I woke up in a rant mood sorry........
any way....for practice at low cost, crafts paint are fine, but you will spend a few bucks for the AA reducer...it goes a very long way....kinda like Breelcream a lil dab a do ya....

I use-
4010 Flash Reducer - Medium Dry
Use to thin colors for improved flow, leveling and spray-ability with a slight acceleration in drying time. For airbrush usage, 4010 Flash Reducer aids with control and preventing over-spray when using smaller tip sizes at lower PSI settings for cleaner lines for detailed work.

hope I helped
