first jean jacket & portrait attempt
i really tried my best here,,and i think i nailed the look,,the object was to make this have an 80's feel and to have some type of facial close enough to the three rappers,,
usually when someone comes to my table and says how much for a portrait i say an extremely high price just to scare them off cause im never sure if i can accomplish the look they want,
so when i said 75 bucks he walked away,,about half hour later he comes back with the jacket and say OKAY,, i wanted to dive under my table and cancel it,,but i didnt and i took the challenge on,,
i really like the outcome,,much better i can see im doing and i stayed away from black and just worked on it till it fell in place,,
i realized this morning that the third girls eye is bigger than it should be ,,but im confident they wont even notice it,,and i did them with the mouths closed cause i was afraid i would give em horse teeth,,lol
heres what i came up with,,,,SORRY THE FLASH BROKE ON TEH CAMERA ILL TAKE CLEAR SHOTS TODAY "SOMEHOW"

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
good job, I found extremely difficult to work denim jackets with seams going across, but you did it anyways, I can see they look pretty, to me, ladies are the easiest to paint because the have smooth faces, no wrinkles. as opposite to man. (just my opinion)

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
domador,,WHEN i got the jacket i never opened it cause i was too stunned by the guy coming back and wanting it done,,so when i got home and opened it i saw all the open areas with seams going every which direction,,lol
i heat set it,,and i think im going to hit it lightly with krylon clear for that extra added protection it may need,,,
thanks dom,,MUCH APPRECIATED when you give your advice!!

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
Looks good. How long did it take? After doing this one, you probably have a better idea of the time it would take and can therefore price better.
Getting the first one out of the way is a big relief! The skys the limit now my friend.

Nat,
You did a super job! Doesn't it always surprise you when you
think you lost a customer, and they come back. That is hot looking.
I was in Pa. a week and a half ago. Next time I got to come by.
Your toons, shoes and jackets look great!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
I notice that you have your own style, your characters have a unique style,(i.e. Jurek style) for example, so just sharpen that skill more,as I suppose you will anyways, and your portrait airbrushed garments will be the sensation in New York and then elsewhere

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
I pretty much have to agree with Domador on this Nat. The more you go out of your comfort zone the more confident your stroke gets and the easier this type of work gets. I think you have a great eye for portraits and I think you did well with this one. They definitely got their money's worth.
Great job!

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
Looks good but do not use Krylon clear on fabric! if you heat set it enough it will be fine. Clears like krylon are not made for fabric and will just crack and peel off and be stiff. Clears like that are made for hard surfaces.
Just trying to help,
Jammer

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
Nat, You don't understand!!!
As we old farts start that fade over the hill, the things we can try to top one another over keep getting fewer and fewer. (lol)
Eventually we get to where we're fighting over who can remember what we ate at breakfast.
Love the portrait. Don't hesitate to take more jobs like that!!

Re: first jean jacket & portrait attempt
Hey x, just wanted to put my 2 cents in in the clearing/sealing of your piece. I have used Krylon for 20 years to seal denim and leather pieces and it has never cracked or peeled off. My own bike jacket that I wear all the time was painted 6 years ago and dusted with Krylon and is looks killer today. Just dust it on. Maybe it depends on the user, but it has never done us wrong. Try a test piece. Just remember, light, light, light. It is just a sealer. Not a "clear"
