Default My 7th pic ever??

Hi guys

New to this airbrush thing but absolutely loving it. Cant pull myself away.
I have a VL airbrush and am just learning. The only paint that i could get to try it out, is fabric paint that i thinned with water. Got a bunch of colours though. I dont even know if this is the right paint but its all i could find (i live in the middle of the bush in africa). Im going to try get proper paint soon.

I have a few questions that hopefully someone can help me with:

1: why is my colour so transparent? ie: red is not red, its pink after i thin it out.
2: Is it acceptable to add in brush work or do you guys just use a airbrush?
3: Please comment on my picture and tell me what i must work on and practice........i cant even do dagger strokes yet, and i didnt bother to do the dot and line exercise (i probably should have)

Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Dylan

Welcome to the forum Dylan, glad to have you here!
Your illustration looks pretty good for only doing this a short time. The shading looks good but you do need a bit of practice with your lines.
You really should do some dots and dagger practice, this helps tons with your control over your airbrush and helps you to get to know your material or paint better.
The paint you are using will be ok for now and as you get better with it you can try out other paints that some of the others use, like waterbased type paints: createx, golden, comair, etc.
I use solvent based paints in the automotive work I do and I'm not sure if thats what you want to use to practice with, a little difficult to dial in unless you are around it a bit.
I have used a thin paint brush here and there to enhance some of my work but mainly to just to define and sharpen edges if needed. I think there are quite a few here that do also. So I feel that it is quite acceptable to use a paint brush when you know it will help you get the desired look that you want.
Hope this helps Dylan and there will be a few others that will chime in on the type of paint that you are using and how to make it more workable.
Hope to see more of your work soon!
DIAZ

I think that you are off to a flying start. I will not try to give you any advice as I am only a novice myself. But one little thing to say is, do the D D L practice. I know that is boring and mundane but you will be better off for it down the line. Keep posting and welcome to the forum Dylan
