Default white on a black license blank

The wife wants me to airbrush a license plate for her father. She want's a black background with a royal flush(poker hand) in the center. Createx paints by the way. I am wondering if I am better off shooting the cards first since they are mainly white, masking them, and then shooting the background, or if I will be okay shooting the white on the black. I am actually trying to talk her into a different color for the background for several reasons, but we'll see. As always all help is appreciated.

I would probably try that, but go easy on the base coat so as not to build up a high line. Heck blanks are cheap, try it both ways...
Mask the cards and spary the black base on one.
On the other, shoot the complete tag black then mask everything but the cards and shoot them white.
The second way you have the card higher than the base, might make it easier to smooth out.
Lots of luck, I had an idea for a tag like this but have not gotten to it..
Take lots of photos!
