Have you cleaned it real good? Sometimes paint will build up in the tip and it won't flow at all...

Not to be a pain, but did you reclean it when it stopped, to include the inlet tube...do you filter your paint or has it been sitting for a while? It could be that a small chunk clogged it up...the only other thing I can suggest is to see if you can spray just plain water...and then start working for there...I don't know all of the ins and outs, but that has been my problem in the past...

I am confuse why the Vls work ok with the 3 tip but not with the bigger tip # 5, I would suspect the tip is the problem

geedogg, what are you using the #5 tip for?? & are you using the same #numbered needle along with the tip??--Of course I guess it's mainly because I'm a shirt artist but truthfully I've never used a #5 tip--ever!! Never had the need..

I have problems with paint build -up on the VL needle, I remove the nozzle and needle thru. the front end far enough to clean the dry paint off of the needle , if the nozzle and needle are clean then I would try straining your paint and thinning the paint if straining don't solve the problem

like darla said t shirt artist only use 3 (im one) but the 1 your paint has to be really thin...and you got to have the #1 needle as well or else it will just flush ya paint back the pressure dont really matter but you must have thin paint becuz that tip is for the really small lines...what i do for those is take off the cap ya just got to be very careful with it becuz if ya drop it ya got to get a new one...becuz moste likely that needle will bend...hope this helps but im not the most experience but i tryed

I don't have any advice for geedog, looking for some myself and since this thread is for "vl" this should be the right place. I've been using VL while gruelling through Darla's lettering class. Before leaving for vacation 2 weeks ago I thought I was doing the responsible thing by cleaning my brush thoroughly instead of letting it sit uncleaned for 2 weeks. Today I returned to my easel to find my brush still on vacation. In other words, it wasn't ready to practice. I have plenty of air shooting from the brush but no paint. I have not had a problem with the Golden Carbon Black Airbrush Color which is more like an ink instead of paint and it comes ready to use. I rechecked the cleanliness of the AB several times and still it won't pick up the paint. I've also clean my paint cup and refilled with fresh paint. Any suggestions before Darla suspends me from class due to lack of attendance?

Jackie, will it spray water ? If it does, and it sprays it well, then you have most likely a paint problem. If it does not spray water you have a dirty brush and you need to clean it throughly - inlet tube, nozzle, and pull the needle out of the brush body and clean it also. If you have never had your brush apart you need to very careful when disassembling it. Be careful not tho let the double action button fall out when you pull the needle ( it tough to get back in the first time ) pay close attention as to how you disassemble it so you can reverse the order when assembling it, good idea to have a schematic of the brush. I believe there is a blow up of the VL somewhere on this site. Hope that helps your problems.

Brushbyair has good advice for you so it seems that you will work it out from that.
I have another suggestion if this does not work for you... When i owned my VL, my paint cup inlet tube was too long and cut to the precise angle conforming to the bottom of the paint jar preventing any siphoning of paint. Perhaps your time away from the airbrush has settled this inner tube to compress against the bottle? You may need to re-cut the tube?
As Lorin mentioned... Spray water through it first to see if this works.
Good luck
