Default Still life

I am no top gun, but this one came out fairly good.
I had to do an all white still life for drawing class as homework. The setup had to be drawn and then shaded with charcoal. I had never done anything with burnt stick and truely believe the cave man would have used an airbrush had he had one! I posted both the Charcoal and the Airbrushed version.
The airbrush was done using a photo of my setup, with Comart Transparent Smoke, HP-BH and HP-CH (like that new CH) on Hot press illustration board. I used french curves and a straight edge, no ohter masking. 4 erasers pink, white, gum and eletric. I did trace this using the projector since I wanted it done by tomorrow night for class. It isn't perfect by any acount but I like the way it turned out.
The charcoal was drawn by hand in the dark looking at the setup.

I know someone is going to not read this all and think the airbrush is the reference.. I hope

You're becoming an artist Doug.

Nice perspective. I like it.

You've progressed so quickly--& you don't seem to be intimidated by other methods of application..I realize you prefer an airbrush, but this shows you would do well with pastel chalks--I think both of these are very nice..Along with optic's terra cotta jug, I think you 2 have shown the class jobs of the day..

Fantastic Doug!! The one on the right looks more like a photo than an AB. The charcoal is really good. Mine would come out looking like someone had just cleaned out the flu on their fieplace. Great work on both.

Thank you everyone! This type of AB painting is not as hard as it looks.
The magic is in ths smoke! Not the funny stuff rolled in the paper.. the Comart Smoke! Oh, and the erasers help too! Next time any of you order supplies from an online source, get a 4oz bottle of comart smoke and give a monochrome a try on illustration board. You would be amazed how easy this is.. just build the color value realy really sloooooow.
