Re: some tshirts
They look great from a content standpoint, but I think you need more contrast with the background and names. The orange and black works well, but the others seem to fade. My 2 cents!

Re: some tshirts
Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to look! I appreciate it. Mayhem, i don't think my work is anywhere near yours yet, but I'm trying!
As far as the fuzziness, the pictures don't appear here the way they look in person. I don't know why that is, I was just ecstatic to be able to upload them from the trouble i had before! The lines are much more crisp in person. As for the contrast, I think some of the darker background seems to "eat up" the names, but not sure how to get contrast other than white around names? I am just starting to get the white to show at all over the color (not even sure how that happened), so am working on it.
Thanks again for input. I love this place!!
Jules

Re: some tshirts
Darla
I guess it's time for me to admit that I havent done very many practice sheets (although you can probably tell that already). I have done some, a little each time I pick up the brush, but not enough I'm sure! It is sooo hard not to try out the "real thing" and actually do something other than black lines! I know what you're going to say...practice makes perfect! I am just excited to be able to actually make something that looks pretty good for the kids and us to wear! Can you remember the first tshirt you painted for someone? It's pretty cool. I wish I had someone like you near me to learn from, but this site is my substitute. I promise to practice some more, but I am sure I will be making more shirts too. Just can't stop myself!

Re: some tshirts
AbJul, you are a charmer & you've turned me into nice..It's very hard not to get a little ahead of yourself when you 1st. pick up an airbrush, probably because it's just so much fun..but if you care to get good at this craft you must practice till you get it-- simple as that..Actually what you've done so far is a good atempt & you show a strong aptitude for lettering. You realize that you have a problem with the contrast between your name & the background..keep your background as light as possible until you add the name, & then after shading the name you will see how dark to carry the background..put an ordinary dinner plate up to your shirt..Lightly spray any color at all around the edge..Place a straight edge in the middle of the circle at a slight slant. Draw a light charcoal line across the circle on the top & bottom of the yardstick..with black place your name in this area..shade the name lightly giving it an airy appearance & then building up color to become darker if needed..keep all of this as clean & un-muddled as possible & see if you don't get better results..where are you from in Missouri?? My husband was born & raised in the state & I've always enjoyed visiting..I'm more than happy to assist you with your airbrushing, but I can't encourage you to go out & begin to make money before you know how to do it..What's nice is that it can be learned rather quickly..

Re: some tshirts
Darla, thank you for being "nice"! I have done many names with colors, and very much enjoyed your article on lettering in the mag. I tried everything you said, as I am very much a fan of yours and look to you for any guidance I can get (not trying to charm, really mean it). I actually did a tshirt for one of the kids with the stars shooting out, like in the magazine article, and it turned out pretty good! It wasn't available when I took the pics and posted them (i think it's in the laundry) so I didn;t post it, but maybe you'd take a look at it another time ?
I am from south of St. Louis, grew up in Arnold, MO, and now live in Potosi, MO, a little farther south. About 75 miles from St. Louis. HEY!! Next time you want to visit, I'll put you up in my guest room and feed you great meals (my husband is a wonderful cook) and you can teach me until we're both blue in the face!! I'm ready anytime you are! (C'mon, you know you need to go & see the hubby's family this summer!?!?) Just a thought (fingers and toes crossed).
Thank you for being helpful. I will post you some practice sheets some time soon if it kills me! (Right now we are out of electric, and I am using a generator. can you believe it? AB is clogged up or someting, am getting a new one tomorrow, hope to have electric to use it then!)

Re: some tshirts
Parrington,
yes, t-shirt or fabric paint. It must be heat-set to not wash out. Createx makes some, I'm sure there are others, but this is what I use.

Re: some tshirts
Hi Darla,
You mention a practice sheet. Is there an article that outlines what a new painter could upload? Looking through all your old posts might take some time and an article would be useful for you and Us
Thanks
Shawn
