Default A portraits...

I've been reading this forum for about 6 months. Just now decided to join. I've been drawing for YEARS but only playing with the airbrush for a few years. I've just now gotten serious with it. I'm painting my motorcycle this week. I got back into it by doing a few pictues. Here they are...suggestions??

Those are great. I like the whale painting the most. What size is that whale painting there is some great detail on there. With the little white rings of crustacion on the big whale did you do a white dot than a smaller blue dot or did you just do a fine white ring?

I actually stumbled across how to do the rings. I was going to do a fine white line. However, a mistake caused me to figure something out. I am using an Iwata HP-C by the way and testors paints. I thinned down the white (about 1:1) so I can work in layers. Testors paints out of the bottle don't go through very well without spitting. So, I was putting a white dot down and I was a little too close to the paper. What happened was, the white dot went down, but because it was thinned, the air pushed the paint outwards...thus forming a ring. Hmm, I said and so I used it on the others. Be careful with it though or you'll make them "spider leg" out. Both images are reduced, but the originals are 11x14 on smooth bristol. I freehanded the whales. The cat I masked off (obviously). I think the cat would be better had I put a background on it. I do graphite pencil portraits for commission and I'm looking to expand my media. I want to try an airbrush monochrome portrait next. However, I'm getting ready to do a real flame/lava paint job on my motorcycle. It'll be my first, but I have a lot of reference photos and I've watched Mickey Harris' dvd, so I'm going to jump in with both feet in the water. Can't be that hard. Right? Ah yes, I can hear all the veterans now..."rookie!"

Thanks Gab, very interesting how you did the rings, I can see how you might get spidering if not careful.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum. Very nice work. I actually like the detail on the cat. You're right though, a background would have made it pop. Can't wait to see more.
