Default Painting brass??

Hi guys my wife wants me to give a coat of black on some fireplace stuff that we have. I was just going to scuff it and go with AA opaque black. How do I protect it and give it the matte finish of cast iron?

You might want to consider a barbeque spray bomb for the job. It covers and wears well, dries to a flat finish,... and is heat resistant to boot. Make sure you clean and sand the brass well first though.
