What rowie is saying is what brand and model...each one is different. I recently bought the tracer jr...read my review...but here is the skinny...

It uses a 3" X 3" (7.5 cm X 7.5 cm) picture area and will blow it up from 4X (12" or 30.5cm) or to 10X (30" or 76 cm)...the edges are fuzzy and its hard to get well detailed pictures that small...but I try to keep my outlining to a minimum...overall, for 50 bucks and what I do, it works great...

I think the manage attachments button was forgotten some attention.
I use the super prism with the tripod stand... very decent even if it is overkill for the amount of work i project/produce. It does come with two lenses which one subtracts the image while one enlargens it.
Never used the subtraction lens yet so i cannot comment on that.

I personally think an Opaque projector would be best. These will only project through transparencies...which means you will either be printing or copying onto transparencies in order to show it.

However, with that being said...I wonder if you could take one of these and use a 200W-300W light source on the topside of the subject and get opaques to work. I know I have seen presenters that do this, but I haven't taken a look to see if there is some sort of electronic gadgetry to make this happen (the lights don't look all that powerful). The only thing I would be concerned with is getting the smaller size...I may try it if I can borrow my kids' teachers class room for a minute...

I agree with Vicar--can't hardly beat a Super Prism in my estimation..A good projector is a top priority for me & I have used & enjoyed mine for a long time.. (I still have my father's from the early 1950's)--upgraded to the Super Prism & it's served me well..I don't know anything at all about overhead projectors but I don't think they help an artist as well as an opaque--I think they're better for presentations?? Vicar is more fortunate that I as he has a tripod..I may put one of those on my list because I don't seem to get up & down like I used too..

Hey Junery. Here's a good description of both the Prism & the Super Prism...
http://www.dickblick.com/zz530/01/

Essentially, the difference between the 2 is the Super Prism comes with both the standard lens & an improved lens that supposedly has "finer color & enlargement capabilities" than the regular Prism.

Sorry I haven't been around lately, but hope that helps some.

Hey Don!

Unfortunately, I haven't been working on much as of late. I've closed shop for a while as of Jan 1st, since I'm due around March 11. Too much effort to run a biz properly, remodel the house, take care of my 16 month old & be hugely pregnant all at the same time. Probably won't reopen until 2008. Bums me out, but that's life sometimes!

Good to "see" you guys... Maybe now I'll have more time to contribute again, at least until March comes!

Glad to hear your doing well Marge. When I hadn't heard from you lately I was almost afraid to ask I'm glad to hear things are on track for March. You must be getting excited March will be here before you know it. Please keep us posted. The shop will still be there in 2008 and you'll be better than ever for the break you've taken. Anything we can do please let us know.

Thank you for your very kind words & encouragement, Don. It's much appreciated. Not easy for someone like me to put aside a love affair like custom painting for the tedium of Motherhood, but one must have one's priorities in line!

Dreading & looking forward to March at the same time! LOL! (And congrats to you & all the contributing artists on yet another great issue, BTW!)
