Default New to airbrush, what to buy

Hello. Im completely new to airbrushing and im trying to decide what to buy.
So maybe you can help me out.

Ive been looking at the VSR90#1 by Paasche but im not sure if its right.

Im going to be using it to do t shirts skateboards and canvases. So id like to have detail control and to make some flat surfaces. But they wont be more than a skateboard or a big canvas.

Anyone got some tips and hints for what to look for?

Greendog,
I think it is hard for someone to step out and recommend a specific airbrush to someone new to the art. There are a lot of artist reading and contributing to this Forum with all using a wide varity of Airbrushes. There are so many good choices out there and the most expensive is not necessarily what you need but it is true that "You get what you pay for". Paasche puts out an excellent product but I have to say that choosing one gun wilth one needle size will limit you to the type of media you use. If you want to paint a wide varity of subjects you may want to consider the VLSTPRO. You can find kits that include a #!....#3...#5 needle sizes which will give you more choices in the type of media you use and the projects you can attack. Regardless of what you choose you will experience the beginners blues, learning how to properly mix your paint and what pressure to use at what time...Practice and experience will allow you to excel.....good luck

I have 4 Airbrushes one being a VLST....It has good action and a comfortable feel and I feel it has a quick learning curve. I recommend this because of its range with the 3 needles and how relatively inexpensive it is to purchase plus you get a hose with the kit......Just a thought...

geedogg, I'm a tshirt airbrush artist with an operating shop & the airbrushes I use are a Paasche VL-3 & an Iwata Eclipse.. There are many more expensive brushes but these handle my needs nicely..Either one would be an excellent choice for a beginner & you can upgrade if you care to as soon as you develope preferences of your own..I think fine detail comes more from experience than costly equipment..Skateboards might be fun--now you've got my interest..welcome to the forum geedogg--get you an airbrush & the fun begins!!

I was glad to read this thread as I just purchased a Paasche VL set today. I have never used an airbrush before, but it's something I thought I just really need to try and why put it off when you can do it now.

I can't wait to get home and get it opened up. The tutorials that I've read seem like they will be very helpful, but you never know until you try!

Wish me luck!

I alway recommend the VL kit to a beginner thats not sure what they want to paint. It's inexpensive, with a hose and a couple of bottles and three sets of needles and spare parts are available just about anywhere. Even if you stay with ABing and want to buy a speciality AB the VL seems to stay close to the work station.

Its actually hard to recomend a certain type of airbrush...But if there is any good advise to give, and that is if you do buy one stick with it and get to know your brush and what it can do..ive used each and every kind out there from a walmart brush to a eclipse and even if you know what you do know each gun is different and tricky. Good Luck, Have Fun, and welcome to the art of airbrushing...Just stick with it
