New Airbrush Suggestions?
I am just starting out and although I have a siphon feed airbrush, want to get one with better control so while I am learning, I can tell if its me or the airbrush making mistakes. I am looking at this one (IWATA 94 H4100P HP-C Hi-Line Bonus Value Pak 198.00) Seems to have the best reviews for a gravity feed.
The one I have now is the Paasche VL.
If I do go with that IWATA, will I need to get new hose etc?

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
Yes, the iwata hose is not the same as the VL.
You will still find uses for you VL, but it will be like going from an old truck to a Lexus if you buy that brush

I think your right, and like in so many hobbies, sometimes the cheaper equipment make it harder to learn. Not blaming my airbrush on anything just figure if the Iwata is smoother and operates better, it might make learning easier.

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
I have a Hp-Ch and along with all the other people reviewing it here. It is my workhorse. I also have a Paasche VL and An Iwata HP-B. The VL is great for painting T-shirts and I use it on other projects as well. The only thing you will notice when changing from the VL to the CH is that you will have to work with your paint mix. You are going to a smaller needle size and the paint flow changes accordingly. Do not despair....you will figure it out fast and unfortunately your VL will feel neglected. Good luck with your decision and post your work.

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
I always take a peak in Ebay, I bought a brand new Iwata HP-BH+ highline that sells at most places for around $189.00 for $139.00

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
Hi Denny, Did you ever get that HP-Ch? If so, how do you like it? I was thinking of buying the same one but I think I should spend just a little more time with my Paasche VLSTPRO before adding to the confusion. However, since tomorrow is my birthday maybe I'll treat myself .....

I did get it, took an extra couple days getting the right hose, but I love it. If I were you I would just get it, it gives you so much better control. I also got some better paint, the kind Don suggests and between the paint and the new airbrush I feel much better about my practice work.

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
Well you all convinced me. I ordered and just yesterday received my Iwata HP-Ch. I also order the adaptor to use with the Paache hose but it didn't work. So I did a little modifying to the adaptor and now it works like a charm. The problem with the adaptor was that it didn't seat itself on the little rubber "O" ring in the hose but was just hitting metal to metal. I used a Dremel tool and a small cone shaped grinding stone to open the hole in the adaptor slightly. Now it works great. But anyway, I can't believe how small the nozzle in the Iwata is compared to the VLSTPRO. I can hardly see it let alone shove a tooth pick in it.
Sorry to have rambled but I do have a question. I shot some COMAIR Transparent thru it for my first try with it. But when I just pushed down for air a very little paint comes out. I adjusted the needle a little further into the nozzle but the paint still comes out. I'm afraid to move the needle any deeper into the nozzle for fear of widening the hole or cracking it. Any suggestions? ...

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
I think this AB has a .3mm fluid tip so whatever you do do not shove the needle to hard or you could split the tip.
I've never used comart paint yet and I want to try it asap , but you may need to reduce a little, I really shouldn't be commenting on this type of paint but the symptoms sound familiar.
I would clean it really good and keep testing. When you take the tip off, if you have to, be sure not to tighten to much or you could twist off threads. Just snug it down easy.
Hope this helps,
DIAZ

Re: New Airbrush Suggestions?
This is what i do when i have constant paint flow expelling from the tip without trigger action... Remove the twist-on handle and loosen the needle chucking nut. With paint in the cup and trigger depressed for air, i pull the needle away from the nozzle slightly and then seat it again. You will get a whole heap of paint spraying while you do this. Its a good idea to spray on a white piece of paper to get your bearings as to how much paint is still flowing.
Do this a few times to see if the paint stops when the needle is seated all the way in, but please dont push too hard as the formentioned problem with the nozzle splitting can occur.
After trying this a few times with still paint spitting, then i will seat the needle again but also give the needle a twist to see if this will fix the problem. Usually this stops the paint flow (air on still) and i then will tighten the needle chucking nut. With the nut tight... practice a few lines as if you would normally to see if the paint has stopped when the trigger is all the way forward.
I usually have to do this every now and then after the airbrush has been cleaned before i start spraying again.
Let us know how it goes.
