Default need some help

i make drill bits where i work & they put in a bike rack for those of use who ride to work. i opened my mouth & said that it would look good if we painted it ( the top bar ) to look like a drill bit ( we make drill bits )
now they want me to do the job
i dont know what paint to use ( i know that i have to sand & prime it first )
my ? is what paint would stand up to the task at hand
should i use auto paint w/ numerous clear coats ?
here are some pics of the rack as is
it will be the my first paying job & i want to do it right
thanks for the help in advance

I'd use epoxies.
The'll stand up to the weather and abuse from the bike locks the best.

Hey I like that "pipe" your'e smokin' in your avatar. Is that water based or solvent LOL.

do you make carbide bits? heavy duty drill bits? that rack is gonna take some abuse, what ever you paint on it, might flake off or scrap off eventually?

I've had to paint some manufacturing equipment that my company designed and built and I started with a etching primer then used an epoxy based paint. I can't remember the brands as it was over a year ago but we had one machine back to modify and the paint has stood up well.

Maybe some kind of implement paint, kinda like what they may use on tractors and other type of heavy equipment.

Sherwin Williams makes paints for those apps, but getting that small amount may be very costly....they have some industrial coatings that need so rust removal....it kills the process when applied and last up to 20 years outdoors, but as as stated they are costly....
