Question need some help

hi i'm new to airbrushing ( about three weeks), and one of my first projects is my sons mini moto. i want to paint a ridged chequered flag on the back panel but its really uneven and was wondering if anyone could tell me an easy way to mask it to lay down the black checks?

eightball,
I just purchased some 1/8" and 1/4" 3M 471 plastic tape used for pin stripping. If I undrestand your project requirements correctly, you could lay down a cross hatch pattern and with proper masking spray every other square and have the flag pattern. Maybe even have a curl in the flag to give the 3D effect.

I personally "but keep in mind im a newbie my self" would mask off your outside edge of the flag lay down your base coat in one of the colors you want the checkers in, I would go with the lighter of the 2 colors, when dried mask off the flag and draw your checkers on it,then cut out your checkers you want the darker color on and shoot,,,,when you get done and it is dried you could put a drop shadow on it to lift the flag .....but like I said I am a newbie so take for what its worth

good luck hope to see pics and welcome a board

If you go to www.towerhobbies.com and search for 'liquid mask', you'll find something that you can spray on, let dry, and then with an xacto knife, cut out the areas you want to paint and peel them off. No bleeding under the tape and easy to use. I use it on airplane canopies for my radio controlled planes.
