if you reduce them first yes you can mix them right in the color cup

whats cool about using an airbrush to me is overlaying different colors to create a new color right on the painting surface, just don't get crazy with it or you'll end up with mud

This is what I do johny. I always have a solvent proof plastic squirt bottle with your reducer and the same with the paint and sure you can mix right in the AB cup but I usually use little paper cups I get from my supplier, that are also solvent proof. Hope that helps.

Coast Airbrush sells these 1/4 oz cups that you can mix your paint in. They are around 3 bucks for 50.....very cheap...as far as straining your paint it is a good idea. Not so necessary if you have new paint but as you use it, paint dryes around the neck and hard bits can drop into your cup and clog....Now you have to stop and blow it out so it is probably a good idea to get used to straining.
If you mix direct in the A/B cup be sure to stir well and shoot a stream off to the side before you shoot direct on your project because if you have a heavy concentration of reducer at the bottom of the cup it can cause a problem with your previously laid down paint...good luck
