Messin around
Read about these carpet squares in a post that Darla had sent to Exotic and thought they were just the ticket for camping mats. Here are a couple I just finished for some of my camping friends.

Re: Messin around
Nice work BBA!
I like the whole idea about the squares, still working out where to get them here.

Re: Messin around
Thanks everyone, these were a blast to paint, I think I spent about 10 - 15 minutes on each one, with the squares at only $2.00 apiece I didn't have much cost in them and they will make a nice gift to my camping friends. Arthound, I did not put any finish on them, for what I have in them for cost when they fade or wash out, they can throw them away.

Re: Messin around
We have stores around here called "Dollar General" they are sold as "accent" or carpet squares for $2.00, used Createx, no final finish on them, not sure how they will hold up, but for what little I have in them who cares.

Re: Messin around
these are basically discontinued or overstock carpet sample pieces that can be purchased from many places very cheaply - "Dollar General", "Family Dollar", "Big Lots" are a few of the cheaper places.
you might also check with your local carpet retailers to see if they have any discontinued samples lying around that they would like to get rid of
i wonder how well painting on a berber style carpet would work...
Nice job on these, Brush. great colors, and nice lettering.

Re: Messin around
Heartless, not sure what you mean by overstock carpet pieces, the ones I buy are banded aroung the edge to keep them from fraying. I think Berber would work, what little I experience I have with them, the lighter the color and the shorter the nap, the better they look when painted. Thanks for the compliments.

Re: Messin around
sample pieces are finished around the edges to keep them from unraveling when they get handled - most samples i have seen are around 2'x3', but i have seen some that are about double that size (they used to sell these in some truck stops - they make great floor mats in a truck! )
as for berber - not real sure about painting it - it is a loop style & kind of bumpy (large bumps about the size of a dime) - might not work out very well, but a nice level loop might work....

Re: Messin around
Hey chuck, I can't take credit for the idea, Darla originally posted as an idea for Exotic to use on her roadside stand, I just took it a ran with it. Heartless, I have berber in my bedroom, I think it would work for painting, just not as well as the short cut end carpet.
