Default Lettering practice

Well after reading the article Darla did for issue #12, I just had to try, it certainly looks easier than it was to paint. These are for my twin nieces that just happen to have their Birthday on St. Patty's day. So using Darla's basic idea and St Patty's day this is the theme I came up with. Thanks Darla for the article, hopefully with time I can master smooth lines, never did get good grades in school for my writting skills, that coupled with age I may never get there. Ok everyone, now lets see some of your lettering, with such an informative article can we let it just go to waste, post yours so we can all be humbelled, and learn together.

FANTASTIC BBA!!!!!! I'm sure Miss Darla will beam with pride over this one. I love the whole theme and it flows good. As you see across this forum all the time, only time and practice will get you there. You are definitely on the fast track for success. I bet the girls are real happy with these.

I am beaming with pride brushbyair!!! You've done so well--your spacing is great & you've got good swing..it sure looks like you held your confidence level & thought it out well..that's what is sometimes hard to explain about lettering is it's very mental..you have to make a concientious effort to make each letter well & thats not as easy as it looks..good job--I applaud you!!

Thanks Barshark and Darla for the nice comments. Lettering for me is difficult, as brush control is so important in creating smooth lines, once it is laid down there is not much you can do to change it. I started this post hoping that others would follow with their lettering and share the problems they experienced while attempting them. I feel a little disappointed that 48 people have viewed this post and only 2 replies. Darla took the time to write an article for the magazine in an attempt to help us with one of the most important factors in T-Shirt art ( Lettering ). I was hoping more people would attempt and share their ideas, hearing others methods is helpful to me in improving my skills, as I'm sure it is the same for most of you. After all isn't that one of the main reasons that Don has taken the time to create and maintain this site, to improve the talents of all airbrush artists ? Come on people lets post and make this FUN !!!!!

BBA, you are sooo right! I too enjoyed Darla's article and had to try it for myself. It is not as easy as it looks! Getting the thick and thin seems quite simple, but just try it and you'll see! I am making tshirts too, and am learning something new each time I make one. This should have been darker/lighter, fatter/thinnner, higher/lower, etc, etc. But isn't that what it's all about? Learning by your mistakes (and sometimes other people's mistakes, too). I too thank Darla for taking the time to produce the article. It is another priceless piece of information for a beginner like myself. Without this site and the mag and articles like that, I would be flailing around even more than I currently am! I wish I could subscribe to online mag, but don't have good enough connection for it. I am just very thankful to Don and EVERYONE who has anything at all to do with this site. Again, it is priceless information for us all!
