Default Lava-look

I'm putting a combination lava-look/tru flame on my motorcycle. I started last night. It's on my Ninja 250 (go ahead and laugh...but even the littlest ninja's demand respect!). We wetsanded and based it in a little 500 and base coat black. I used an Iwata HP-C. I used PPG base white for the lava. I'll put some transparent yellow and red on tonight. Maybe Kandy tangerine? One thing I noticed, my AB was spitting white. I tried different air pressures. I mostly worked with 20-25lbs. Maybe I should be using the HP-BCS? Dried paint on the tip? Suggestions? Comments?

That is going to look cool when it is done. I don't know about your paint issue.

Hey Gab, have you tried adding a little more reducer to the white thining it down?

We thinned it 1:1. Then we thinned it "a little more". I don't want to thin it too much or it I'll be shootin' transluscent reducer! LOL I did notice that when I was spraying in slower detail areas versus moving around quicker, it spit. I don't know if only pulling the trigger back a little was causing it or what. I don't want it doing that when I start laying base for the flames though.

I'm not experienced with PPG, but it could be a dry tip issue. Also when thinning you can shoot at lower PSI. The more thinned, the lower PSI you can get away with. With the detail your shooting, you could get away with using a .5mm tip if you have one.

Looks like a good start. Can't wait to see it progress.
