Default Latest practice on a dragon...

Well,I got my new ab and practiced on this dragon I found online. I did it freehand so of course it's got lots of flaws. I just wanted to see how my new iwata ch worked. I love it!!

Ya did a real nice job on this- I like the sketch.
Any chance you could do this again but without the black?
You'll find a big differerence in the outcome of your work if you use red or blue etc. for shading.
There is no black in this --If at all possible and (sometimes you must use it)- stay away from it.

Hope this helps! I would like to see you try it again.

I agree oats. I try not to use black even if you are tempted when you are doing a full color illustration.
I think the dragon looks very cool . Try next time to do your background first then do the dragon on top your background.
Then do what oats suggested by not using black, or any other dark color for that matter, as your primary color but to use it as an additive to darken a primary color up to use as your "black" shading color.
I hope this helps, I have lousy grammer.

HAdn't thought about that , but I understand the concept . This allows you to not have that coloring book effect . Right? I see the difference in the picture oats posted . The edges are softer , an dmore natural looking , instead of the hard black lines . Thanks for those ideas , and helpful hints !

Nice work Shovelhead, you are catching on to this thing pretty fast. The shading tips are good ones, always look for ways to not use black, a good substitute this time would have been florescent violet, it would have helped "POP" the green you used in the dragon. Keep it up, they just keep getting better.

I used green mixed with black at first. But I have to tell you, This is the first time that I've painted on a canvas like material, and The material just sucks the paint up. Althought this was a practice,I wanted it to look good. I didn't feel that the darker green was working for me,so That's when I broke out the black. When I was done,I noticed that it was a little too much. Thanks for the tips, and I'll put those to good use on the next one.
