Default Lampshades

Would heat setting be necessary if I were to ab lampshades? If so, how would I go about doing this?

Hi Bettyboop, let them air dry..I painted small lampshades at one time about 4 yrs. ago...I'm like exzotic ink & I'm always looking for a new product I can put a name on.. I purchased small $dollar store lamps for $2.50 each & I painted a good many of them..(until I got kind of bored with it) Cartoon characters, double hearts with names, etc...I would imagine a larger shade painted with higher quality artwork would be very pretty..as a child I remember some very pretty western motif designs sold well at resort areas..that's the beauty of an airbrush--there's just not much it can't paint on..what plans do you have with a lampshade???

As i am only just starting out, it will be very simple designs, to start with probably just masking of stripes, or do some blending of colours. I am getting good at by sunsets (I have a large painting to do for my brother) so I will be able to start adding those, but as I improve I shall try all sorts of different things. I am currently doing essay's for uni, so haven't had as much practice as I would like, but will soon be practicing my sock off. Then, hopefully, I will be able to be more elaborate, and come up with some interesting work.

I have so many idea's for my airbrush, it is difficult to know where to start, but just got a job lot of shades off of e-bay so thought I would see what can be done with them.

funny darla! Bettyboop, thats a great idea!! Keep them coming! yeah you guys got me, im racing to the store to find some, lol!! Heres a small idea for the shades, you said your just starting, you can always stencil stuff out, im sure some flowers, or tribal, or roses would be real simple to cut out, than get adhesive spray, place those on your shade, tape off the rest so no over spray can get to it, and practice the blending colors on the flowers, OOOO YOU COULD come up with some amazing effects..Try it, please post it when your done!! I would just guess at this, but wouldnt the heat from the lamp do the heat setting part? Maybe? I would think since your not washing them, it would be ok to just do them up as they are?Later hand wash them? But that is a GREAT IDEA!!

I guess I'll be racing xzotic to the store! But you could probaly protect them with some kind of gesso or a satin, flat, finish out of a rattle can, couldn't you?

hmmm, somehow i missed this thread before...

nature type scenes are a "big" item in lampshades right now - just a basic silhouette type thing with moose, bear, etc...i bet something a little (or a lot) more detailed would be a BIG hit!

will be interesting to see what comes of this.
seems to me somebody did "true fire" on a lampshade a while back....turned out great.

yes diaz is right, if they are cloth shades , you dont need the clear protection on them, if they are leather or what ever that other stuff is they make them out of , i would seal it with a KRYLON CLEAR , lightly from a distance do maybe 2 coats over the design, seal it if its not fabric..sorry forget the different materials shades have..lol diaz.

You Girls!!

Sheesh!!

With all these ideas I can see i'm going to have to move Donna out of the garage and start looking at some of these ideas myself.

At the moment everyday is just so manic on non paying jobs, consultancy and quotations for computer and network stuff I wonder why I even get up each day.

But you know what, each day in some small way I always manage to find something that sparkles and keeps the fire burning.

For example, the last 3 weeks I must have covered over 3000kms looking at networks and systems in remote places hoping to get some of the service contract, each day you need to approach with honesty and passion.

hrmm, i'm so tired I forgot where I was going with this, sorry about that.

Anyway, thanks for all your ideas and inspiration girls. you have no idea how much it all means.

ok i'll shuddup now.
