Just an observation
It sort of goats me that when we visit other forums I see comments about how dumb some of the questions are or people should not give advice if they are not a professional with X number of years experience. Then there are posts about how come no one gives back to the site when they have received so much information from it.
Honest suggestions and help is what makes this site different from many of the others, that and the fact that it is a safe site.
When I started airbrushing (and still do) had the desire to learn, know read, learn and hear about everything that is airbrushing. I certainly was and maybe still do ask those dumb questions and even though I have not been airbrushing for 20 years, I still try to help the people just starting out.
So just so everyone here knows this.
Thank you Don for having a place where all are welcome, where we can feel safe in asking those questions. A place where we can all learn from each other.
Thank you to all of you for being patient, helpful and a bit playful at times.
Most of all Cheers to all of you! YOU ALL ROCK!
Ok, getting of the soapbox.. lol

well my two cents worth
i dont think that x amount of years matter to much dont get me wrong it is important but not the most important thing i think its all about the person and how far they wanna go their are people who have to work at it to be good and their are people who once they pick up the gun they have a knack for it as a matter a fact its proven on this site time after time one will always see my 1st teeshirt done and 3 months later that same person will post up his 20th tee and look outstanding like if he's been doing it for 10 years might of gone off track a little but to sum it up i agree with what u say quickchange

Re: Just an observation
I not only have seen this on other boards but when I talk to other
airbrushers, pinstripers, signpainters. I just started abing again in 2002.
I have known and met a few of the big names. Let me tell you all something.
The talent here is as good or most the time better than what they do. Just
look at some of the items here posted over the last few years. This forum is
a visual art school where everyone is welcome.
If it wasn't for each and every one of you, I wouldn't be doing this. This is the only board I come to. And I have had some odd questions and they get answered no problem. I will talk about all this to anyone until I am blue in the face. Everyone can learn from each other no matter what the skill or interest level is.
When I started doing pinstriping in 1973. No one would even talk to you about any (so called secrets). Sign painters too. In 1985 I wanted to learn
lettering and no one would give any (secrets ) out. So when you see all the
vinyl lettering maybe thats why?????? There are no secrets!
Thanks to all of you for helping me. I have learned more from all of you here than the ab classes I took at the local night school here.
Thank you Don. You are the best !!!!!!

Re: Just an observation
I have to agree with you fresnojohns, its all about the secrets.
Nobody wants to share all the years they have spent learning to the new guy.
I don't usually get a long with artsy people for that reason, don't get me wrong i love talking to people with alot of experience but it always gets to the point well i did this and i did that.
This is the first forum that i actually enjoy and get excited about.
so much talent and such a variety of experience.
what i like most is that everybody helps everybody.
newbie or master every comments on everybodies work.
I am very glad to have tried to pick up AB again and found this site.

Re: Just an observation
you know from time to time I have seen posts like this on this forum "including one I posted when I first started thanking everyone " . It is really cool how people all over the world, different beliefs, different brushes, mediums, tech's can all come together and relax ,have fun and learn all on the same website !! I have been to other forums trying to put some NOS in my learning, it did just the opposite !!!! tryin to sift threw the name callin and ego attitudes to find the tech was just to much !!! so to everyone thats a part of contributing to this forum, newbies all the way to the big dogs I learn from you all and thank you for making this such an enjoyable place to learn and show my work !!!!!
way to go DON
hats off to you !!!!!!!!!!

Re: Just an observation
I am still new to the AB world and also visit/lurk on other Forums. This, by far, is is best and friendliest one. I have seen others as mentioned on other forums degrade or insult an individual just for asking a question or go on a rant about using the "search" feature, not that the individuals shouldn't, it's just the point of "if you know the answer, let them know" and advice them about the "search" either way help the individual out.
It's not like that here and that's what makes it great, kinda like an "online family". Great job to Don and All.

Re: Just an observation
I'm new to this forum as well as airbrushing, I've been on and off airbrushing for about 1 year, I've drawn my whole life and recently in the past 2 years took on tattooing. I've been lookin around this site and found an enormous amount of info and knowledge. After reading this post in particular, I knew that this site was full of people who not only knew what thier talkin about, but also knew that those "stupid questions", were questions they had at one point asked too. In the tattoo trade you go through an apprenticeship, where you learn from those who have been in it for a while, a lot like airbrushing. I see it as a skill that's passed on through the sharing of info, and experiance. So as my first post I'd like to say whats up to all and thanks.

Re: Just an observation
I agree with all ya'll. I logged in here over a year ago. I posted a couple pics in my gallery, then lurked alot. I wanted to get back into painting badly.I was still drawing and that helped in my gardening and woodworking. But I finally got my stuff together to get it in gear. I had forgotten a lot. I was glad this place was here to jog my memory. And even in a new town, the library had much of nothing to read. I found so much info here that I just had to try! And the info on all the new items available.
It's a great place to hang out in and read the wip's and the info when asked by anybody.
I am nowhere near being a pro, I just like making pics, but I feel like I'm amonst some of the best when I'm here
 thanks Don!

Re: Just an observation
We all put our socks on one foot at a time here, all have a common passion airbrushing, custom painting.
The admission fee here at Airbrush Technique from day one has always been be civil, repect other members opions. In the early days as Kimmo can tell you we had some days when things turned very negative but it was just part of growing as a commuinty.
This place runs itself now because you the members set the tone it's me who needs to thank you for making this a nice place to hang out, THANK YOU.
I seldom visit other forums so I have no idea whats going on but I believe each forum has its own way of offering positive things to the airbrush commuinty. Each make the their own contributions to our art form and thats a good thing.
Weather you post a question on a medical or legal related forum recieving an answer does not release you from doing more research, studying. Its no different on an airbrush forum having your question answer is just the beginning of your journey not the end, experimenting with techniques, colors is how you grow as an artist. It's nice to have help along the way but the real gains come while your painting and developing your own style by trail and error.
Let there be peace on earth and let it start with us comes to mind, a bit corny but it's true. Maybe what we do here will catch on
