Just messing around
I haven't posted any pictures here yet. I have been airbrushing for about 3 months now. I think this piece is probably the best one I have done so far. Let me know what you think of it.

Re: Just messing around
I can't tell if the word is reflecting because its on top of the surface, or if the word is engraved and it weathering. It sort of looks like the bottom shading is reflecting. The bottom 3 bullet holes make it look like your looking at it from a perspective other than head on...if that makes sense. Otherwise, the shading is really good. The texture is awesome. It looks like smooth concrete or a plain marble. Nice.

HI
Very nice work, you're doing great. I'm sure in no time you'll be brushing like a pro.
Harley is very protective of their property I would be very careful rendering anything along those lines, same with Disney. Just something to think about.

What do you mean by that? As for you other statement is it sitting on top or engraved and weathering. It is suppose to look like it is engraved.

Yeah I always try to be careful about the copyright stuff but it is for a friend, they wanted me to do something with their son's name Harley.

Re: Just messing around
I don't know if it's the smoke coming out of them or what, but it appears as though you are looking at them from an angle upward. A head on shot would be perfectly round. These look a little ovular (ovals). So, it appears from a different perspective. Like when you write in tall skinny letters and then hold the paper almost flat to your eyes, the words appear short and fat. Understand? Maybe I'm mumbling.

Re: Just messing around
very good for 3 months, did you paint the cracks at the top or scrape the surface to reveal the white highlites? and I see what Gab was speaking about with: is it a reflection or engraved. Sometimes photos don't give us the full detail of the painting. Depending how you look at the photo (probably not the actual painting) it looks like there are shadows underneth the engraving but when you look harder I believe that is just weathering coming from the engraving and not reflection or shadows. I'm sure he was not trying to be insulting just trying to give helpful critique. Critiques are great because we all can take what people say and apply them to our own works. Keep up the good work.

Re: Just messing around
Yeah I understand what you mean. I was thinking maybe if I added so highlights to the bottom of the bullet holes it would help it.

Re: Just messing around
thanks army, I don't take it personal when someone tells me it looks wrong. I actually like when people tell me what is wrong with the stuff I do so I can go back and try to fix it. I just try to ask question to better understand what they mean.

As for the highlites I scraped the surface to do that.

Re: Just messing around
It does look great. Aside from a few perspective issues, the shading and textures are great. I do portraits and I scrap and erase away highlight areas. I'm also with you on the critique. If someone always tells you that your stuff looks great with no pointing out of flaws, you always think you can't improve. However, if people point out things, you go back and notice it and then you get better because you avoid it the next time. Not to say that you don't get better with time, but critiques help. And getting compliments help too.
