Default Intro, questions

Hello. I found this site searching for airbrush information. I'm so lost!

Introduction... I'm a long time artist, oils & acrylics, pastels, charcoals, inks, sculpture, etc. I never even considered airbrushing. My primary reason for wanting to buy an airbrush now is my younger brother. He's into RC cars, and buys all kinds of bodies for them, but they come clear and he has no interest in painting them himself. So I thought it would make good gifts to send back home to him if I paint some car bodies for him... he's always bugging me to send him paintings, drawings, etc. I'll also be interested in using it to expand my current media and use it for more "fine" art applications - in my canvas paintings, wall murals, etc. Other than that -- I'm 30, an avid scuba diver, and I just started working on my PhD. Wait - do I think I'll have time for art anymore?

I really do have too many questions to ask here, so I'm wondering if anyone can point me to good beginner information on the web? Extreme basics? I've found a ton of stuff on the net, but none of it beginner enough. E.g. I've read about pros & cons of single/double action, but I need REAL basics, like what does that even mean... hehe.

Thanks in advance for any help!

HI and welcome to our little place in cyber space and the world of airbrushing. Glad you decided to pick up an airbrush. Have you checked out www.howtoairbrush.com I believe you will find what you are looking for there. If not please let me know as I'm always looking to improve on the web site, your input would be very helpful.

Painting RC bodies is a bit different as you paint them on the insideand work your colors back wards sort of, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

Lindsay, Welcome to the Forum.

In short form-
Double action AB - press trigger down = air comes out tip w/ no paint(unless U have problem w tip/needle,etc..) BUT, when U press AND pull trigger back - paint flows in proportion to how far back U pull the trigger.

Single action AB - when you press the trigger, air and paint come out together, and U lack the finer control over the amount of paint ( that is adjusted when you setup the tip/needle.

Is that clear enuff ?
