Default Im new and kinda young....

Im sort of new to airbrushing. I started this past summer, teaching myself as i went along and using the how to's on this site to help me. Im only 17 and im trying to get good at airbrushing cause it is a passion of mine. Now for my question. I mostly airbrush t-shirts and i was wondering what i could use for a shirt board? i use cardboard now, but its falling apart and bends if i stretch the shirt over it. Please help...

Welcome

I use the hardboard that you can find at home improvement stores like home depot or lowes, not sure what type you have..

I have several sizes that are cut approx an inch wider than the width of the size shirt I want to work on it.. i.e. small and med. large and X large.

My boards are also cut a bit longer than the shirt to allow for clearence for the brushes in the tray and to be able to adjust the shirt height for my own comfort.

Thanks for the help. Ill try to get out to home depot this weekend and check it out. Right now im just using some corrugated (sp?) cardboard taped together to make it thicker that i cut to a size that i thought would work.

Young man, if you have a tight budget cardboard is a good enough choice for a shirt board..beefing them up with several thickness is good..(it's nice to have them stable).. You can use almost anything, but if you're planning to use them a lot your best choice is masonite 1/8th. in. thick.. Lowes is a good source & will even cut a 4'x8' sheet to size for you..this will cost you around $10 or $12 --Quickchange gave you a good guide--about an inch larger than your shirt size..having good shirt boards is worth the investment..I love to see new tshirt artists, so I hope you get started soon..

Thank you very much. Im gonna try that out. Budget isnt much of a problem. I dont have a job at the moment, but my mom is very supportive of my airbrushing and will probably buy it for me. I want to try to get a camera soon so i can put some pictures on here of the things i do. Thanks again for the help.

Welcome aboard young man, I would like to add one thing to what has been mentioned, when you size the boards, I find it helpful to make them all the same length so that they all fit your support ( easel ) at the same height, this makes it alot easier on you not have to adjust the height of your support. Looking forward to seeing some of your work, don't be shy, even share some of your practice work, there are alot of helpful artists here to help you !!
