Default I kicked myself outta the house

Okay guys and dolls, help me out with this one. After starting out airbrushing in my kitchen, I moved to the dining room where I have had my Balloon business set up. Well, I redecorated this room not too long ago, paint, new fireplace surround, drapes ect. After airbrushing in here for awhile I see paint on my walls, drapes and so on. Time to move this stuff outta the house into the garage. The garage is not insulated nor heated and no air conditioning, plus I am invading Tom's man cave. Do I need to have certain conditions to paint? Does it need to be certain temps and stuff like that to paint? Of course I know in the winter I will have to have heat, but like now its pretty hot and humid here.Is that going to affect the paint? I am hoping I can figure out something that's affordable right now. Rowie, I know you can help, you have painted in the pouring rain and storms.

the dry heat will dry your paint quickly, but high humidity may cause paint to dry slow

What Redneck said is pretty much about it. I deal with extreme temps in my little shop(garage). During the winter it can get a little chilly, between 35- 65 degrees, especially at night so i just put a little space heater on. I work out there during the summer so it can get anywhere from 95-120 degrees in there and use a little swamp cooler to cool it down but being that this cools with water during the the humid season(monsoon) it doesn't cool as well.
Being that i have worked in these conditions it doesn't seem to affect the actual application except the drying time.
Also no matter what you use for paint you need really good ventilation and a respirator on hand.
Hope this helps...

Thanks guys, I was hoping it would not be some kind of major overhaul to paint out there. I was thinking it would affect the paint coming out of the airbrush and all that.

Joyce..back in 96 when I faced the same problem....I went out and bought a cheap 10x12 portable building...even un- insulated it wasnt too hard to keep comfortable...as I made a few bucks I did insulate it...this may be a route for you and it wont be invading the MAN CAVE.....

hehehehe as I grew .....so did my mans cave space...as I moved up to bigger building he got the ones left behind.

First things first. Put some thought into what size area you REALLY need. Unless youre either doing massive amounts of production, or take on 5 or 10 new projects a week, chances are you don't need as much soace as you think. Then, there are things like running water, a close bathroom, and heating and cooling that are either luxuries or necessities depending on where you live and who you are. Some of us could probably paint in a tent made of blue plastic tarps, and some of us seem to need a shop of palatial proportions to do the same work. I myself use the same 10X20 unfinished garage area to airbrush, as well as build and finish furniture, ans manage to store a couple bikes, a lawn mower and lumber overhead. And, I weigh more than 2 of the average bear! Ventilation is courtesy of a 20" box fan set up in the only window in the shop, and I always use the same chemical rated respirator whether I'm cuttin' sprayin' or finishin' the projects.

Joyce, If you're painting on paper, which I do a lot, you may run into some buckeling in the real humid weather. Ice crystals in paint is not good either.... LOL... Joke

Joyce, sounds like you're in a situation that we all face or have faced at one time at least.

There are some brilliant suggestions here for you (way to go peanut!) but I have some ideas that I use and have used in the past (ok so I havn't been painting all that long).

For painting inside I used to use an old industrial vacuum cleaner, the ones that look like a 20gallon drum, on the end of the hose I secure a very large funnel, on the opening of the funnel I put 2 or 3 pairs of stocking over it to work as a filter.

I position the big funnel near the area that I'm working and bingo, we have a sweet extractor system.

That seriously cut down the overspray problem.

The other plan is to follow Peanut's idea of getting a nice shed, now here is where I had fun, instead of the shed I converted our garage into "Rowie's Cave of Technical Delights", before I found the new religion of Airbrushing the cave was where I ran the computer business from, the roof is fully lined and insulated so are 2 of the walls (still working on the big tin door), the Cave was full of computers, arcade machines, pinball machines, all that stuff.
Just before I started airbrushing and car restoring I was forced to sell most of those toys so the Cave was converted into the "workshop".
It is still a WIP but it is getting there as time and cash permit.

Whatever you end up in deciding upon please remember to stay safe and to put a big lock on the doors to keep the boys out.

Rowie..I believe you came up with this to make the miss's think you were helping with household chores
"Rowie...what are you doing?"
