Default Honda Motorcycle T attempt

Wow, I sure have a lot of respect for t-shirt AB artists. It took me about
5 hours to do this shirt for my son who just bought a Honda Shadow ACE
(American Classic Edition). The shirt looks like it's painted with no mistakes,
but up close and in person there is black overspray around the ACE and
scattered out from the flag folds. It's sooooo disappointing. I thought
about blocking the spray somehow but always seem to get a block line
no matter how careful I am and that's worse than the overspray look.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

By the way, the Tanks and Tins entries are incredible!!!! Goldbrush

Very cool! I like it when artists' use the whole width of the shirt, and I like the design.

As far as your over spray (which is not very obvious from the photo), you can reduce it with the aim of your airbrush and lowering of air pressure. You will need to fine tune your technique to fit the set-up you are spraying with. Also, the use of stencils, shields, and masks will work as well. Just try not to become too dependant on them.

All in all, I think you made a very nice looking tee with a way cool design!

Very nice Gold.
To keep overspray down you can turn the psi down and get in close. Or you can keep it up and move fast and get in close. Also you can turn the airbrush in to the left slightly if you are working on the right side of the line to tighten it up and to the right if you are tightening up the left side of the line. Also you should always make certain that the t is really snug on the board, but do not over strecth it. Always picking your paint off the tip helps too. A cracked cone or a hooked needle will cause a poor spray as well.

Thanks for input, all!

I have never touched the PSI setting as I don't know much about it.
I shoot at 40 PSI always. What number would you recommend for
say letters? And what number say for larger things like those flag
fold shadows? (Really, up close that t-shirt has black overspray
around the letters ACE done in stencil, none on the Honda because
I pencilled those on then drew around them with no tip on my AB.
There is a lot of overspray way out from the flag fold shadows, but
your advice about how the tip of the gun was pointed makes sense.)

The gun pointing thing I will practice. Please give me some reference
numbers to play with on shooting small things or larger things PSI wise.
YOU are ALL so patient and so great for giving all this help.

Gold, I think you have done a fine job here, especially for one of your first attempts, you have recieved some nice tips for controlling overspray that will help you. One thing that stuck out tome was your flag folds, try highlighting the high points with some white, that will help with the 3-D look and reduce some of the sharp shaded edge. Good work here!!!! You asked about pressure, I sometimes go as low as 12 psi, just remember that it will be more difficult to get paint to flow at lower pressures. Your son will be proud to wear this one, and be waiting in line for the next!!!!

Yes, I will try highlighting the top of the flag folds with white next time. I
guess I'd have to mask off the letters first and whatever else I don't want
white on. Ahhhh, challenges. Also going to try adjusting PSI down, down,
down and try that for my overspray issue (plus I'll try to be aware of my
gun angle). Thanks BBAir!! GB

Hey, AirTodd. I am going to try that 55-60 PSI. Have
always kept my PSI at 40 for everything. Just started in January so really
have been focussing on AB control and learning to get ahead of clogs,
spots, and and accidental spatters. Thanks for input!!! GB

Hey ArtWorld! I did have a few problems with my AB as you mentioned
above but didn't realize how much this might be adding to my other problems.
Thing is, my husband bought me a new needle and tip for my Iwata HP C+,
because I accidentally dropped mine on the floor and the tip got flattened
on the bottom of edge (it would actually fill with paint and drip out on my
project if I wasn't careful), and the needle point had a "little hook" in it
as you described. Why didn't I put the new one in? Because I wanted to
save the new stuff for a "real important project" and I didn't want to have
another accident possibly and bend the new one. After reading your
reply on "hooked needle", I went and changed my needle to the new one
and put on the new tip as well. Thanks for the mention. That WAS helpful!!
