Smile Hi all

Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a few weeks reading as many posts as I can, there is some great work in here (I’ve looked at all the gallery) and good tips as well. I don't own an airbrush yet but I’m sure I soon will, it looks like a good hobby.

I guess I might as well ask a few questions while I’m introducing myself...

It looks like we don't get much of the paints you guys tend to use here in Australia I've seen some Createx but from what I've read its best to be avoided. I've also seen some HOK but I don't think it’s the right paint to be using for canvas/paper types of artwork? (Seems most people are using it for automotive?).

Seems like the paint I should use when I get into Ab'ing is "Golden Airbrush colors" but I haven’t seen that for sale at all here in Australia would it be worth importing it?

Also after all the reading I’ve done I still don't know how much paint you typically use? It would be interesting to know just to get a better idea on paint cost.

Also for that type of work I was intending to do (artwork on canvas/ paper mostly working under A3 size) I was thinking the Iwata HP C+ would be good or even the HP B any advise in that area? I already know I want it to be gravity/dual action.

The last thing I wanted to ask is do you have any recommendations for a good book to get that covers all the things a noobie needs to know like how to do dagger strokes, masking, cleaning etc (I've seen the free resources and they are great but I’m keen on getting a book as well).

Not sure about paints in your area, but I buy 1oz bottles and they last long time. I have the HP-bh and love it I would highly recomend it. I am ordering a CH today. I would start with the C if I were you, it will carry you fairly far before you want the B or the Micron. And you will always have the C for larger area work once you add the B or micron.

Purchas a subscription to the ONLINE magazine airbrushartist. You get over 3 years of data including videos (video kind of requirers you have a broadband connection) I don't own any books at this point, the mags and this forum have answered all my questions so far.

Welcome aboard you will do great!

Welcome to the forum pazza, There are 100's of books printed on the art of airbrushing--you could run a seach online at Amazon or check ebay as I've seen some listed there..it doesn't take a very thick book to teach the fundamentals--there's only a DOT & maybe 2 other strokes & that's what you need to be working on 1st. Beautiful art books usually tend to show lovely work accomplished by very talented & advanced artists, who have many years experience & I feel they often do more to discourage than teach..step up to your easel, make a dot, then a dagger, practice some line work, & in a very short time you could write your own book..good luck to you if you decide to pursue airbrushing further..
