Hey all you electronic and gadget guys and gals
I have been searching for a gadget for EVER.. I have found some at our local electronics store but they are toooo big..
The tool I am searching for is called an easy-out.. One of the uses would be removing a needle bearing in an airbrush.. My husband has need of one also and we just can't seem to find any. I personally have never seen one, but he explains that it has a sleeve of sorts that will slip over or into the item you are trying to remove and you then retrieve the item. Does this make sense to anyone and if so, can you tell me where I can order the bugger?
Thanks.

Hey Quick, an easy out as I know it looks almost like a drill bit with the flutes backwards from a drill bit. You will destroy the needle bearing when removing as you have to tap the easyout into the bearing and them twist it out, it will cut small grooves into the bearing, that is how they get the grip necessary to back it out. You can by these at any hardware or home improvement store.

your common drill bits are right -hand but a easy-out are similar to a left-hand drill-bit and or left-hand taps, I not sure but what your husband are talking about sounds like a screw holder device to keep the screw from falling and causing more trouble

Re: Hey all you electronic and gadget guys and gals
Ok,, I know I am not explaining this very well.. Oh and yes, I know it will destroy the old needle bearing.
Let me wait till the hubby comes home and I will get him to splain it to me one more time so I can try and explain it better to you guys.
He has ordered one from our local electronics store, but it is to large. I just can't remember what the part is called that he needs to change..
Will get back to you.
thanks

Re: Hey all you electronic and gadget guys and gals
I have never seen an easy out small enough for what you want to do. Maybe someplace that sells machinest tools would have something like that. I think if you have a brush that needs a new bushing and you do not have the ability to do it your self, maybe a return to the mother ship for service is in order. Depending on the bush it may not be worth the $$, may be better to replace it... or upgrade it??
This is what we all think of when we hear easy out..

Re: Hey all you electronic and gadget guys and gals
Aixguy says good stuff.
Even if you get an easyout small enough, (I've never seen one, they are usually intended to remove screws and such) If you don't have them lined up perfectly and make sure you don't apply too much pressure. You will damage the part if not the brush as well.
Time to get a cost estimate from the home office for shipping and repairs and compare that to buying a new brush.
You may save money by buying new.

Re: Hey all you electronic and gadget guys and gals
If its a bearing or bushing inside the airbrush an easy-out may
really eat it up to the point its a paper weight. Those parts
are pressed in with very tight tolerences. I have no idea how
small of a setup they use. I have a worn seal on a Paasche
thats 30 years old, and I won't touch it. And being small even
if mildly succesful taking the bushing out, you may take a chance
ruining the outside body as well. Even ultra cheap brushes have tight
tolerences. Maybe buy new and ship current one back. Some
ab makers replace the bushing/bearing for free.

Re: Hey all you electronic and gadget guys and gals
ok... posted a correction on what I am looking for in OT.. However, just so you know I am not crazy.. I was curious because of an article I read.
"Replacing the Needle Bearing On Internal Mix Airbrushes"
Airbrush Digest/November/December 1982
"Friction-fit-needle bearing. Front removal. Can be pulled out with either an "easy-out" tool, a long thin machine screw used as an easy-out"
It goes on to say that a specialty tool can be ordered from Binks..
I just realized I am Eclectic... lol I find it on the net and I collect it..
Ok, to much paint..
