Default help me get a vision...

Could someone give me a pic of a skull that has been painted to look like back of the skull is being streched, and fades in the background?

I need it to give me an idea of how its done...I cant get a vision of it in my head.
Thanks!

Hi LeeAnn

I have searched the members photos here and no one has done a pic like what you are after, most of them use flames to fade into the distance, sorry but I did try.

LeeAnn,

Do a rough pencil sketch of the idea you are looking for and maybe someone can help a little more.

LeeAnn,

Just a thought, open the mouth a little, giving the lower jaw a flatter bottom line, then try to extend the lower jaw some.

Rowie, here is my second try. I flattened the lower jaw line, and extended the jaw... How does this look? Am I getting the effect?

Hi LeeAnn,

I see that asking you to do a little sketch has helped you find the answer to your first question, to make it look like the back of the skull is fading into the distance you might need to adjust the perspective slightly and fade it to almost nothing at the very end. For creating the effect of distance in a painting you make the things closest to the eye Darker and more focused, and the further away something is the Lighter and more out of focus they become. Great referance sketches so far.

Leeann,

I have looked long and hard at this new sketch and can only say one thing.

!!BRILLIANT!!

Opening the teeth and dropping the jaw a bit gave you more freedom to extend the chin, with great results.
What are you painting this on, you might consider fading the back from about halfway, that way you might be able to fade it out to nothing instead of a point.

The brain is going off the wall thinking about this project of yours. ;-)

Good luck with it girl.

you need anything sent over to SA just let me know OK!

Excuse me for being "duh" here... (whats SA?)

Thanks so much for the compliments, and I am in the process right now of changing the stretched part. I am taking the advice of Leighton and Rowie, and will fade the "stretch" into thin air! I will post it when I get it done... A little later, so check back!

Thanks alot for your insight, and encouragment!

Yes,... I use Photoshop but there are limited editions, or older editions of it that you can get at a resonable price. If you are anything like me,... you'll find that you don't use 10% of the stuff that is in the full version.
Anyway,... I think your drawing is fantastic. My only suggestions would be maybe bring the teeth out as you extend the chin, and bring the forehead back a little to loss that dolphin look. Good work,... can't wait to see the end result.

I am in the process of changing the perspective a little on the skull, while at the same time, trying to get rid of the "tail" and have the back of the skull just fade out.
I know the skull needs some work, in general, but right now I am just really focusing on the fade-out on the back of the skull, and I can play with the rest of it later.
I get to this point of working the fade-out, and I just go blank. This is where I am at this point...(pic). I have a vision of it fading into the background, but I JUST CANT get it to come off the skull!

Please help!

Kicks, I keep using your photoshop skull as a reference, but I am still having trouble. By the way, I checked out your homepage. Great work, and alot of experience, too! I will get there one day. I really love the potential that an airbrush can offer! I tried to sign your guest book, but it froze me up for about a minute, and then wouldnt let me in. (I tried!)

Rowie, my husband is the one that wanted me to come up with this skull. He said he saw it done somewhere, (although he cant remember where), and he really liked it.) Once I get good enough in airbrushing, he wants me to paint his Harley. (He is in the process of rebuilding it right now, and it wont be done for a while... so that gives me lots of time to play around with the ab and hopefully be good enough to paint the bike when its done).

I am just barely past learning dots, lines, etc... so I have a long way to go. But I feel good about it, and I think I can really be good at this, once I get the hang of it. Its just a matter of getting used to the airbrush, vs. a paint brush.....and finding my own style and technique.

Okay, so just for fun, I will post something I did the other day. I got in the mood to mess around with skulls, and I picked up the ab, and this is my first attempt. I just did it on brown paper... but I had alot of fun with it.

In the meantime, here is my current sketch. I will take all the help I can get!

SORRY... For some reson, it wont let me post pics right now. I will try back in a few minutes.
