Default Help Help Help with paint

Hey everyone. I'm brand new to airbrushing and need help.

I purchased a package about a year ago with an Aztek A470 air brush, some paint cups, a tool and their mini blue air compressor. I went to a hobby shop and purchased some different paints and also ordered some Testors hobby paint online. I haven't tried the testors paint yet, but am having problems with the others.

After a little research of Createx, I think I may have hit on the reason I'm having problems. I'm putting a base coat on a motorcycle helmet and having problems with runs and what looks a lot like orange peel. I'm starting to think that the paint I am using is meant for textiles.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to buy to paint on objects that are not textiles? My first project after I do some more learning of the basics will be a skull on the motorcycle helmet. Next will be a .50 model helicopter. I also have a nice touring motorcycle that may fall in next. There seems to be a need in my area for small art work and things on motorcycles and cars. I don't know if I'll ever get good enough to try it, but it's possible.

I looked into House of Colors, but am not sure what colors or kind of paint I need. It's a little spendy, so I'd like to make the best decision when I buy some. I would like to get a kit somewhat, so I get several colors to get me started. Right now I know I need Black and White for the helmet, and I'd love to do an eagle coming in on prey on the helicopter. Please, any advice as to what to buy and where I can find descent prices online? I'm a long ways from any art stores or hobby shops.

Thanks in advance for your help.

hi teaman and welcome,
createx make a paint especially for vehicle painting. AUTOAIR is its name and its water based so no toxic fumes and airbrushes clean out with water (obviously) lol....
im new to airbrushing too and i started using Autoair... ive never used solvent based so i cant really compare... they do a whole range from opaque, transparent to flip colours, metallics, pearlised, sparkles....etc hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. It took me a while to find the online dealers on the site, but I finally did. What else will I need besides the color kit? Reducer, cleaner, etc?

Thanks again
