Helmet Paint Job

Hey guys, Its my girlfriends birthday in a month and I wanted to give her something special.

I first wanted to have a Full Face Helmet painted with the Brazilian flag for her since she is a brazilian girl and loves her country but I realized everyone is asking $400+ which is obsurd for my budget. So I was thinking if I do it myself, itll cost less and she'll like it more anyway.

Ive always been good with my hands and was the best artist in my elementary class haha... Im not worried about my skills, I will handle it. So I was looking to get some advice. Im trying to keep this as cheap as possible other than for the helmet which is going to cost because i want to get a good one for her.

What i know so far:
I need to buy a fiberglass helmet not a polycarbonate

What should I buy? ebay a good way? theres the airbrush with everything but the compressor for $9...

There is a cost to airbrushing, in equipment, materials, and learning time/curve.

For your needs, you might consider getting someone else to do it, or get a decal to put on the helmet of your choice. Using a decal doesn't limit the type of helmet material used, and it will be the right shape color, etc.

I'm not trying to chase you away from airbrushing, but I think that the whole operation is a bit more involved than you realize. You could blow the $400 you mentioned in a reasonable airbrush and compressor setup without ever getting paint, the helmet, the prep materials, the masking materials, etc., and when you are done, the helmet would need to have a good clear coat put on it to help the artwork last. For doing the work you described, you are talking about a two or three day job at the minimum, and that is for someone who knows what they are doing, and who has the equipment and setup to do it.

How about doing the helmet through someone else for this year, and you learn to airbrush so that you can do a matching leather jacket for her next birthday?
