Default Hello From Omaha

Last week I was at Harbor Freight (tool shop) and bought a really cheap single action airbrush to play with (my first one ever). Well today I convinced my wife to go out to Dick Blicks and bought a Paasche VL set. Really looking forward to spending a day on daggars and dots tomorrow. I plan on painting mostly t-shirts but plan on doing something on my bike when (if?) I get good enough. It seems I read somewhere about using food coloring to practice with. What medium will this work on? I have a roll of white butcher paper and was hoping to use this for practicing.

A!rbrush, I'm a big touter for butcher paper & use it for a lot of things, but it wouldn't be the best for a beginner to practice on..It's not near absorbant enough, & would react more like a hard surface than a textile shirt. It would be very unforgiving & without knowing proper control you would suffer with spidering & running & all those disasterous things.. I would advise using good quality white (no pattern) paper towels, held to your easle with a light mist of spray adheasive..VIVA works well if I remember..Everyone on the forum strongly recommends golden paints for practicing beginners & although I haven't used them, I think you should heed their advise..welcome to the forum-- I think you'll enjoy the craft..

Thanx for the input, we happen to have paper towels around the house with no patterns on them. I guess I have to take another trip to the art store tomorrow though, my wife picked up a set of paints but they are colorfast and it seems I recently read somewhere not to start out with those for practice.
