the can kind of sucks!i bought a 7 gallon air tank last night from walmart for $20
hopefully i can make it work for me.i'm going to pick up a cheap compressor when i have the extra cash. for now i can fill the air tank at my parent's house.
i still need to pick up the proper fittings and a air regulator.
i also need to figure out if i need a new hose, or if i should use an adapter to make the propellant hose fit the standard 1/4'' air hose?

The regulator will make a massive difference in how your airbrush and you perform.
Most airbrush hoses have a 0.25" NPT fitting at one end, I would put quick connects on your hoses, your regulator, filter, and water trap setup, and on your compressor or tank.
The tank will be better than the little propellent can, but you will see it's limitations pretty quick too.
IF noise or size is an issue for you, then you might consider getting a CO2 tank, you can lease these from welding supply stores, or you can buy them. The beauty of this kind of setup is that you can airbrush without noise, without wild electricity bills, without maintainance worries, and it lets you see what you will need if and when you do go hunting for a compressor.
You will get a whole lot more hours of painting out of a CO2 tank than you would your air tank, but like the air tank or any compressor, it needs a regulator to let you do your thing. You can get the regulators on ebay or at the welding supply store. The regulators for carbonating soda or beer will work just fine.
Ask XzoticInk about hers, Natalie went through the same thing you are going through.
Good luck!

i shall also extend a hearty "Welcome to the forum" and on another note, I try to stray away from propellant in a can... that crap has a tendency to freeze up any water based paint.

thanks everyone.
i think i'm going to buy a cheap compressor with the highest cfm that i can afford so i can use is for other spraying applications. i'll get a moisture trap and a regulator and that should fill my purposes.i can fill my air can with the compressor.

Welcome to the forum, you don't have to wait till you get skills before you post anything, you should start posting things that you are doing with the airbrush now so some of these great and helpful artist can give you tips and direction that will help you advance. As for the air compressor, if you have a Harbor Frieght around you, I would check there for a compressor, this is where I have bought the 2 that I own, and I haven't had any problems with them, again welcome to the forum and can't wait to see some of your work posted.
