Exclamation Gun Atomization- Paint consistency

Hi guys, just got my spray gun compressor up and running. Did a few test strips on my garage wall (much to my wife's chagrin ). Just wanted to know though about paint consistencies for best atomization. I'm using a mid-range devilbliss gun with AA. This gun has a MAX 30psi inlet. My setup has an in-line water trap and regulator. So i'm assuming that 30psi means that when I trigger my in-line regulator should read ~30? Should I use AA straight out of the bottle or use some reducer. I noticed that upon first trials the paint was spattering. I adjusted air flow and paint flow, increased psi to 30 and seemed to get better more even atomization but my final job still looks just a little bumpy . Any tips? Will the painted surface be as smooth as a baby's bottom or is it going to be like that? (like when using rollers in the house).

Thanks

L

AA has a grainy feel too it- but the clear coat will soak right in and bond to it.

The regulator should read the constant PSI when the trigger is depressed. if you gotta crank it to 60 to get a steady 30 when the trigger is pulled do it. There should be a recomended pressure stamped into the nozzle on your Devilbiss gun. This is the tried and tested pressure that will give you the best performance, Minimize bounceback and give you consistent patterns.
