Default Glad press N seal experience

Hello to all who read this post.
I just recently completed my latest airbrushed portrait so its gonna be difficult to knock me down any time soon
Just wanted to post a half dodgey review on this very cheap alternative to frisketing material.
As most of you know glad press N seal is a mild adhesive backed suran wrap (kinda) for the kitchen of the American consumer (perhaps worldwide... who knows?) which can be used as a frisketing material.
Now, i have used it on fabrics with no problems but just recently i attempted it on a hard surface and found that it leaves behind a small trace of adhesive when peeled off after 50 mins. Perhaps you may think 'well you left it on there too long?'...
I did some testing and it seemed to leave this gluey product as soon as i applied it with some pressure to a hard surface.
A foreign matter on a painted surface to shortly be cleared/sprayed upon is crucial to the outcome of a perfectly finished art piece.
This is a very cheap product and it is extremely easy to cut, though it cannot be repositioned with confidence (i found cutting a new piece works best)
All said and done, this product works well if you are not worried about adhesive deposits left behind or just need some quick, cheap frisketing practice alternatives.
For a legit painting, its better to do the job right than to do it half assed is my 5 cents.
I rate this product 7/10 (perhaps should be moved to reviews... oops, my bad)

I too tried using the press in my early stuff on illustration board...I tried two different rolls of the stuff...the first roll did not adhere at all...no matter what I did...not sure why. The second roll stuck MUCH better...but I learned two things. It works best for "non-pointed" edges...on a sharp/pointed edge, it likes to peel up...and that can be disasterous. It also did not work well for me when I tried using it as a negative (not hanging over the edges of the board)...it flew up easily....

The "residue" was easily removed on dense illustration board with a pink eraser, but on a more porous one, it didn't work..

I also give it a 7...much cheaper than the real stuff...but...not on something I was planning on framing...or for a customer.

I tell you what I am thinking of changing my user name to half assed. I am new to air brushing and I love it but it sure can leave you short on cash. I use the press and seal to save money but I dont think any of my recent work is going to be showing up in any gallary thats for sure. Like you said its great for prctice but i would think if you were a pro and getting paid you would want to do the best job possible and not cut corners. But if your new and cheap like me its fine. I have yet to try it on a shirt. I am verey happy there are people on this forum who are willing to share the tips of the trade. That is not a common thing for people to do. Any way thats my two cents for what its worth.

thanks!

The Glad press N seal we got here in sweden doesn't work for
airbrushing,,,,tried it few month ago ,,whatta crap ,, still can't understand how you folks do when you use it,,,used it on different surfaces helmet,,tank,,nada,,it blew off like a autumn leafe,,,
my favorite "cheap frisket" is parchment paper and 3M
Repositionable sprayAdhesive,,to use on canvas,,paper,,t-shirts.
spray some adhesive on a piece of parchment paper and let it "breath"
for 30-40 sec,,and then attach,,pretty easy to cut too,,

I bought Glad-Press , only use 1 time not very happy with it, I also use spray adhesive but the last time were a MISTAKE , I spray a frisket made out of wax paper and either placed it on the tee shirt too -quick or held the heat gun on it too-long because the adhesive stay on the tee

I bought some frisket from the local hobby shop a while back. The only problem I've had ,was when I tried to put it on a base coat of paint.(before clear). When I used a clear coat first, then I can just wipe it off with 409 or something simular.

shovel

using frisket with solvent based paints is not a good idea
the adhesive on frisket will release on the painting surface leaving you with a big mess
you might get away with a couple times but that one time you don't and it creates a big mess you'll reget it, trying to get the adhesive removed without trashing your graphic or art work is not very easy and in some cases can't be done

I use glad press n seal all the time with good results on hard surfaces

hummmm surprised at the reviews here in this thread..I use Glad P&S alotta times...been very happy with it....but only on low low low pressure situations, and spray at angle from the edges.....I spend extra time making sure I have it stuck down well........may be a womans touch kinda thing ya reckon?
I know I bought the cheapie kind once and it didnt work at all for me.....use Glad brand only now...
