Re: Flake buster
They are a bit pricey, and while they give you more control over how much glitter you apply, you probably lose as much on the ground as you get stuck on your project. You need to spray a fairly heavy wet coat with a slow flash time, then shoot your glitter, pearl, etc. to the desired state.
If you could recover the dropped material, it wouldn't be so bad, but who has the time to lay out clean mats to collect the stuff between the spraying the wet clear coat, and then spray the glitter only to have to turn around and imediately have to yank the same mats or collectors out so that you can lay on more clear over the glitter that stuck to your desired work surface.
Unless you do a lot of work with pearls, glitter, interference colors, etc, then I wouldn't bother.

Re: Flake buster
What Font says is true.
But what is cool about this is that you don't have to screw up another paint gun to see if it can spray the desired size flake you want and be descently consistent.
One of the shops I worked for bought one of these and loved it 'cause it could spray an awesome amount of flake and the biggest flake on the market. Plus it was the paint gun designated for any and all flake and pearl projects. But like Font says you are going to go through alot of material before you dial it in.

Re: Flake buster
Font and Lee are spot on with this. I got to demo one sometime ago and the flake goes every where I mean every where...
If you plan on doing clear on a different project with no flake in that same booth or room expect flake to show up no matter how clean you think you got it..
Hok has some sweet new type of intercoat clear just for flake..
Never used it but I have seen some of the finished work after its use..
As far as messing up any guns I have always mixed just a small amount of urathane clear after I clean my gun to pull out any missing flake or particles... It seem like a waste but it has always pulled out junk I thought I had got... Yea I know more cleaning thinner and a waste of clear but I only make a small amount plus I dont add any harder unless I know the harder is going to be almost dead...This is just my way...not the best but it works well for me..
ps ... It was a kool gaget...I didnt like the price.. yikes..I could buy a new Iwata LPH300 for that price just for flakes and base coats..Plus how much Flake I do use any more is next to none...
