Default Finally done!

YeeHaw...it's finally done! I was beginning to think I'd never see daylight again. Bad news is when the 'client' took the parts to be cleared, the guy forgot (???!) there was no clear over the AB & when he used the tack cloth, it scratched my paint! Not too noticeable from 5' away but up close, it's very visible on those parts. There's a couple major scratches on the front emblem too. Rats & double rats! I told my guy I THINK we could spot fix them. I've seen ABers doing it at rallys but I'm not sure about what they use to clear it afterwards. Thanks for all the help/suggestions during this project!

oh,,sorry to hear that,,,it realy s%&?s,,when you put done your soul on a
paintjob,,,,had a goalie helmet that i painted didn't have any big guns to apply the clear those days so i sprayed a coat with my airbrush just to protect my waterbased autocolors then i asked a guy to apply final coats of clear,,,no problem,,,
after few days of trying to get hold of the guy he finaly answers
the phone saying,,,,the helmet isn't done you see i had sprayed some silvercolors with the gun i used to clearcoat and got some flakes of that in the clear(the helmet had dark colors)when spraying so i had to sand i down,,,,it will take couple of days more to get it finished,,,
Okay,,after couple of days it was done went down and got the helmet and
when i got home i saw that he had sanded so hard that at the sharp edges
around the helmet the white plastic showed OH NO!!looked like mess.
had to fill in these with new paint and bought me a larger gun and cleared it myself,,,it came out great,,since that day 7 years ago i never trust anyone else with adding a final coat ofclear on my paint jobs,,,i do it myself

you did a great paintjob ,,,and it looks like a real speed machine

Great work Romper! The S logo looks killer along with everything else!
I have a feeling though the only way you are going to be able to fix it properly is if you wetsand,,fix the artwork,,then reclear and buff. Atleast thats the way i would do it.
Some others may have some different ideas.
Awesome work again!!

Nice work,

Especially the chains. Is the clear coat guy a pro? Kinda wierd to not have a dedicated Clear Coat gun. The stuff is nasty, I had the same thing happen to me when I had used the same gun for primer and clear coat. The clear cleaned out every little bit of crap in the gun and splattered it all over the surface. After that I bought a gun just for the clear.

I touched up a 2006 R6 Yamaha a couple of weeks ago and all I had to do was scuff up the clear coat. I was just laying down a matching basecoat to cover some scratches, not airbrushing. The only prob that I think you could run into is once you wet sand the clear coat, it becomes hazy (at least the clear coat I use) so detail work may be a pain in the booty.

Good luck,

Oz

I guess I better learn how to do my own clearing. This is the 2nd time a paint job has been messed up by someone else doing the clearcoat. Sorry to hear I'm not the only one with that problem. This was also the 2nd time to paint that bike...the next time I want to see chains is in my naughty dreams & I'm not too sure about that right now!

Thank you for the kind words...you are all a great bunch! So as I progress, does anyone have any words of advice as to what I would need to do my own clearcoating? I work out of my basement & am wondering about needed space, ventilation, & equipment. I use Krylon UV clear in a can for leather & small projects & it sure stinks up the house when I use that! Would it be worth it to do it myself?
