Default Evil Clown

Hi everyone I have been really busy lately and have not been painting much. I got a little time tonight and did this. I tried to soften the pic with some white over it , I don’t think I like it this way I should have left it as it was. Any helpful suggestion ?

Thanks,
Waycool

i dont see where you made a mistake? is this on illustration board? you want to fix the black where you put white? i would just use a marker, but YOU DONT NEED TO FIX ANYTHING, it good like that! nicely done!

Your clown is fine waycool--all I see it lacks is a few shadows & highlights & it would be killer..a good looking clown & a great start but it can be carried further!!--It's not really a good idea to haze over a whole area with white but you learned exactly what the outcome of that good idea is so you'll be hesitant to do it again..Nothing teaches quite like a mistake.. Thankfully you're is not too bad!! exotic, whatever you're doing right now with your markers can be done with the airbrush..it takes practice & control but linework is one of the best parts of airbrushing for me..I urge you to put the markers away & learn how to make your airbrush sing..

Darla,
What do you mean by markers? magic markers? I did not use any magic markers the thick lines were on the decal I used as a reference.

Thanks,
Waycool

No, not you waycool.. exzotic ink made a reference to some linework with a marker & I want to encourage her to attempt even fine linework with the airbrush..Your linework on this piece looks very nice.. I see a few places that an ending with a dagger stroke would have shown off more, but I think your clown has a good appearance..Like I said before, there's lots of room to continue working on it--but when the artist feels it's done then it is..

Hi Darla,
On this piece I should have added some dagger strokes, the decal I was using for a ref didn’t have any sharp lines or dagger strokes it everything was rounded and thick. I think that was the reason I tried it, to practice the line work. Thanks for all of your help I really appreciate it and so does everyone on this site.

You’re the best,
Waycool

waycool, decals & a huge amount of silkscreened merchandise will show rounded linework..on decals, squared off, pointed corners would be apt to tear while applying & also the majority are die cut ..I used to silkscreen a wooden character plaque that I cut out with a rather large bandsaw..A sharp corner would take two cuts, while a rounded one the saw followed just like a sewing machine..you're an airbrush artist now & that gives you license to do anything you please..since the dagger stroke is one of only two fundamental strokes an airbrush makes--what the heck!!--do what your heart feels & give it a dagger..Start being your own boss!!..I believe & encourage copying anything & everything you see, right & left, just snatch it all up & paint fast & furious-- but I also feel that you would feel sooo pleased with yourself if you gave it your own spin..make it yours & let someone else copy your version..

oops, i just suggested it to another person, the markers, yiiikks!! O man i should of read this post first! darla, sometimes i feel, the line "ab"darkness is not as a markers darkness..or as fine or sharp? O man dont boo me for telling another newbie to do that!! I will practice what you say, i thought thats how you pro's got the fine line effects to look deeper in color? I will post a new thread on this, later this week to show what im talking about.

You're fine exzotic ink--there's no right or wrong way to do anything in the artfield--anyway you can get it done, then all is fair..I sometimes like a darker denser black too, but I usually turn to the product paint to fix the problem..I've just switched to an opaque black to see if I like it better than the transparent..I'm so used to handling any size linework with the airbrush that the only other tool I might turn to would be a fine liner or pinstriping brush..You'll use markers less & less too, as you get more adept with the airbrush, but there's not a thing wrong with a marker.. Use whatever gets you the best results after all else fails with the airbrush..
