Default Buying an Airbrush

Alright im very new to airbrushing I first started using one when I was younger and making models. I was digging through some old things and found it and am wanting to get into airbrushing. I already have a 1.5hp 2gallon compressor I just want to buy a 'good' brush. I came acrossed one called a Capital 2006GF just looking for some input on if it would be a waste in time and money or not.

It looks like an Iwata HP-CH knock off. about 1/2 the price of the real thing but I have no idea of the quality. The HP-CH is an awesome brush, I own the HP-BH which is very much the same with a slightly smaller nozzle and cup. Personaly I would not buy a knock off, but my budget is not a limiting factor. Sorry I can not be definitive. One thing is for sure with any tool, you will seldom be unhappy with the best.. By far Iwata is the best...
Note: Airbrush city and Rich Pen and lots of other no names.. are Iwata Knock-offs.. not that they are bad.. many people on this forum own RichPen brushes and are happy with them..

I'm sure I will get flack for this and I haven't posted much lately and I am not trying to get anybody mad but- I agree, Iwata distributes and specs top quality equipment I have several of their airbrushes. They are great and I highly recommend them. However, I just want to make a point, there are a lot of cheaper airbrushes made in china and tiawan that are so called Iwata knock offs but some like Richpen and for example Olympos airbrushes and others are not Iwata knock offs. They have been around for a long time before Iwata was even known or made popular by marketing and sponserships and at one point in time Medea used to import Olympos airbrushes. Iwata did not invent their style of airbrush 'the way it looks' the company that makes them for Iwata and others did. And as a side note the so called revolutionary MAC valve is not new or an original Iwata idea. I have a 10 year old Holbien airbrush also made in Japan that has a valve built into the head of the airbrush to regulate the air presure.

crash_cohen, that airbrush is a copy of the newer Iwata Micron C+. Is it a good deal?, I cant say as I have never used one. If you decide to buy it make sure you can get parts for it.

Sorry for the rant,
John

thanks john for the help as always ( you forgot Rich airbrushs in that list)

Don at airbrushcity is a nice guy sells tons of airbrushs I'm sure he would help if you had a problem with it support wise but for my money I would stick with a brand name airbrush as with any tool you get what you pay for and they are generally easy to get parts for, help with if a problem happens
Iwata, Paasche or Badger

actually i think some of the best airbrushs made are not from japan but germany, here in the US they are hard to come by

Mac valve I never use it, how many of you do? I did at first when i got it, it was fun to play with

Don I Use the mac, love the mac, want a Micron B with mac but they only make the C with it as of now.

In the long run, you got Ford, Chevy, Mopar, Honda, Toyota, Kia .. all cars.. all get you to your destination.. most of the time.. you buy the one that you can afford and fits your purpose.. Some cost more, some less, some are broken more, some cost more to maintain, some less.. at least with cars you can try them out before you buy.. I think that is the hardest thing about buying the airbrush.. no touchy feely..

hey crash, go ahead and buy that brush, and if u dont like it I will pay u what u paid for it. I use the GD 102 I believe and love it. I am new to AB ing so dont have much experience, but I have had a Pasche, a470 Aztec, a 155 Anthem by Badger and I generally use my 102. I have a freind who has been at it for over 20 yrs who has tried my brush, he has a HP c by Iwata and he says that my brush feels and works the same and when he buys again he is going to buy one of these. Like I say if you dont like it let me know and Ill buy it from u

Hey Triman, do the Iwata Needles fit in it, or do you have to get the parts from where you get the brush?

ya know , that is one thing we didnt try, but I would almost think so because they are pretty much identical on breakdown. they appear the same length so if the diameter was right,,,,,bobs ur uncle

I also thought at first that it could be a copy of a HP-C+, but after reading this:

Needle & Head size 0.5mm
Spray Pattern 1/32" to 1-1/2"

and after looking at the way the body is built, I found that it looks like a CM-C Plus from Iwata, but with a bigger needle.
